HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 72-1983 RESOLUTION NO. 72-83 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION COMMENDING LESTER ANDERSON . . WHEREAS, Lester Anderson, a sixth grade student at Sunshine Gardens School, on May 25, 1983, demonst~ed compassion and quick thinking by promptly responding and saving the life of h~s schoolmate, who was choking on food; and WHEREAS, based upon report~ from this City's Fire Depa~ent and ~ Pa~a- medic Undt, Lest~r Anderson exercised good judgment and sk~ in p~rforming back- slaps and the Heimlich Maneuver, which is composed of abdominal th~st~ performed upon the choking victim to alleviate any obstruction in the throat; and WHEREAS, Lester Anderson learned this lifesaving maneuver in the Boy Scouts, an organization which has worked closely with our Fire Depa~ent; and WHEREAS, he displayed quick thinking in exercising the Heimlich Maneuver on h~ schoolmate du~ing the lunch period, successfully clearing an obstruction from his friend's throat; and WHEREAS, without Lester Anderson's quick actions it is qu~e possible, that h~ schoolmate could have died, and both boys' pa~ents and families a~e certainly proud of Lester's life-saving abi~x~y; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of South San Francisco desires to recognize this young man's contribution to th~s community in personifying the "Golden Rule" and coming to the aid of a friend; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Franc~co that it does .hereby express appreciation to Leste~ Anderson for his courage and his ably to quickly respond to a friend in need, and does permanently record by this Resolution recognition of his con~bu~on to this community's safety and welf~e. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regu~y introduced and adopted by the City Counc~ of the City of Sou~h San Fran~Csco at a_ regular meeting h~d on the 1st day of June , ~983, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Ronalld G.
