HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 3-1984RESOLUTION NO. 3-R4 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ENROLLMENT AND PREMIUM PAYMENT OF CERTAIN QUALIFIED RETIREES IN CITY HEALTH INSURANCES WHEREAS, employees who retire directly from service with the City of South San Francisco are provided the ability to continue their health insurance enroll- ment with the City's health insurance carriers and receive the benefits of the City continuing to pay the insurance premium for the retiree only; and WHEREAS, the continuation of health insurance coverage and City payment of the retiree's premium is a benefit that has been provided to retirees since 1978; and WHEREAS, there are former employees who retired prior to 1978 and who have served the City for a substantial part of their working lives; and WHEREAS, those former employees who retired prior to 1978 are not able to enroll in City health insurance programs, nor do those former employees receive the benefit of City payment of their insurance premiums; and WHEREAS, health insurance coverage and the costs of insurance coverage are matters of significant concern to persons on fixed incomes and who are over the age of sixty-five (65); NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that: (1) The City Council hereby determines that effective January 11, 1984, the following former employees who retired directly from the City's service shall be authorized to enroll in the City's health insurance programs and shall receive the benefit of the City paying the retiree's insurance premium under the terms and conditions of the contracts with insurance carriers held by the City with insurance coverage to become effective upon the first day of the month following the month of enrollment: (a) Retirees not now receiving insurance benefits from the City or City payment of the retiree's premium and who are sixty-five (65) years of age or older and who were employed by the City for fifteen (15) years or more; or (b) Retirees who retired on a disability retirement and who are not receiving insurance benefits from the City or City payment of the retiree's premium and who were employed by the City for ten (10) years or more and whose personal income currently falls below the poverty level as established for the County of San Mateo. (2) The enrollment of qualified retirees in City health insurance programs and payment of health insurance premiums by the City for said retirees only is hereby authorized and approved by the City Council and shall remain in effect unless and until subsequently modified by City Council action. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the llth day of January , 1984, by the following vote' AYES: Councilmembers Mark N.
