A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN
FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION
PLAN BY ADDINGA JOB SPECIFICATION
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
that the Employee Classification Plan, as amended, is further amended as
fol lows:
1. To add job specifications for the position of:
Assistant Electrician/Mechanic, W,Q.C.P. (classified)
as set forth in Exhibit "A" attached hereto.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced
and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a

THE POSITION
Under general supervision of the· Maintenance Supervisor, the Assistant Electrician:
Mechanic'assists the Electrician/Mechanic in the repair, maintenance and install-'
ation of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment; and does related work
as required,
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
'The Assistant Electrician/Mechanic is distinguished 'from the Electrician/Mechanic
in that-this is' the entry level position which assists' the jour. ney level Electrician/
Mechan!: in repairing ,. maintaining and installing electrical and mechanical equipment
and systems. The Assistant Electrician/Mechanic· position requires knowledge of and·
exposure to' electrical .and. :mechanical equipment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
-
Under the gene.ral supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, assists the Electrician
'Mechanic in repairing, maintaining,'installing and inspecting electrical systems,
equipment and fixtures~'such as motors, transformers, wiring circuits, switches,.
alarm systems., lighting systems, electrical pump control, equipment, meters and out-
lets; Locates and determines electrical ma'lfunctions using test instruments such as
ammeters,' voltmeters, and test lamps; 'Repairs malfunctions by such methods as
· replacing burnt-out, elements and fuses, bypassing or replacing defective wiring,
filing switch contact points, and cleaning or repairing motors using·, hand tool·s;
Tests electrical .equipment for.. safety and efficiency using standard test ins..truments;
Performs .minor mechanical repairs on pumps, valves and other mechanical equipment.
Keeps records of maintenance repairs; performs other related work as' required.
MINIMUM QUALIF.ICATIO~S

Knowledge of:
Methods: tools and equipment used in electrical system
·
maintenance, res-ting, repairing and'installation;
Methods, tools and equipment used in'mechanical equipment
maintenance and repairing;
Safe working practices and'codes;

Ability to:
Use electrical tools and instruments~ properly and safely;
Read blue-prints;
Detect and repair electrical and mechanical faults and
failures;
Understand and carry out written and oral directions;
Keep basic maintenance repair records;
Establish and mainta.$n cooperative relationships with those
contact in the course of work.·
EXPERIENCE
· .
One (1) year expeP)ence in electrical maintenance and repair with experience
in mechanical maintenance and repairs.
EDUCATION
Equivalent l~o completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. .
LICENSE
·
This position .requires'possession of a valid California Driver's License issued
by the .Department of Motor Vehicles.
