CLASSIFICATION:.PLAN-B~-ADDING A
JOBSPECIFICATION'~FOR'THE POSITION
OF SUPERINTENDENT OF FACILITIES
MAINTENANCE
BE ~IT RESOLVED BY THE City Council of the City of South San Francisco
that the Employee Classification Plan, as amended, is further amended as
fol 1 ows:
1. To add the Job Specification for the position of:
Superintendent of Facilities Maintenance
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced
and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a
reqular meeting held on the 28th day of November , 1984, by the

SUPERINTENDENT. OF FACILITIES MAINTENANCE
DEFINITION
-
Under general direction, to plan, organize and direct the Parks and Building
Maintenance programs; to plan, organize and direct the maintenance, repair and
construction of City parks andllandscape areas, City buildings and properties.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the activities of the Parks and Building
Maintenance Divisions; coordinates the activities with those of other City departments
and other public agencies; plans, organizes and directs the construction, maintenance
and repair~ of City .parks,.landscape areas, buildings and city properties; cOnfers'~with
foremen'in scheduling and assigning personnel, periodically inspects work in progress
and upon completi, on to insure conformance with standards; prepares and'reviews reports
of job performance; directs the maintenance of necessary records and prepares periodic
reports of department activities, issues requisitions for the purchase of needed
supplies and equipment; establishes work priorities in construction and work; answers
questions and complaints from the public and sees that necessary action is taken;
prepares annual division budget~ and controls budgetary expenditures; interviews and
recommends the hiring of subordinate full-time and part-time personnel; evaluates
employee performance, and takes or recommends appropriate disciplinary action; meets
the public and various officials and citizens in'furthering the public relations of
the division.

Possession of an appropriate Cal~ifornia operator:s' license issued by the State
Department of Motor Vehicles. '

Knowl edge of-
Principles and procedures used in developing and administering
a coordinated Parks and Landscape and Building Maintenance
Division for the City;
Principles of organization, supervision,and training;
Equipment, materials, type and.methods used Tn the construction,
maintenance, repair and impnovement of City pa~k§~an~"~acilities
and
Ability to:
Supervise and direct the work of Parks and-Landscape and Building
Maintenance personnel;
Plan, organize, dilrect and coordinate a program for the maintenance
of related City structures and facilities;
Develop and install improvements in organization and work procedures;
Plan and. recommend projects for the improvement of City parks and
landscape and building maintenance facilities;
Develop and maintain work and operational records, and prepare clear,
conci se reports;
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with
other City departments, employees, contractors, and
the general publ lc.

EXPERIENCE: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in the construction
and maintenance of municipal public works facilities, .including two.
years of experiencelin a supervisory capacity.

EDUCATION- Equivalent to compeltion of the 12th grade. (Additional qualifying
experience may be substituted for the educate, on on a year-for-year
basis).
