A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH S~df FRANCISCO
DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO IM~K)VE THE PORTION OF LINDEN AVENUE
FROM THE NORTH CURB LINE 0F RAILROAD AVENUE TO THE WESTERLY ~LINE
OF SAND BRUNO ROAD IN THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISC0.
WHEREAS public interest and convenience require t~ the work and im-
provement hereinafter described should be done; and
WHEREAS, in the opinion of the City Council of the City of South S~n
Francisco, said contemplated work and improvement is, ~nd is hereby declared to
be of more than local or ordinary public benefit~
NOW, THEREFORE, resolved by the City Council of the City of SoUth
San Francisco that it is the intention of said City Council to order the follow-
lng work and improvement to be done in said City, to-wit:
That the portion of Linden Avenue from the northerly curb line of
Railroad Avenue to the northerly property line of Armour Avenue, including all
intersections, terminations and opposite terminations, be improved as follows;
to-wit:
(a) That the areas on each side of the existing roadway pavement
for the full length of said street and each are~ for a width lying between said
existing roadway pavement, and a line which is parallel with ~nd distant eight ~nd
one-half (8--~?) feet at right angles toward the center of the street from the
Jacent property line be graded and that all of the existi~ concrete curbs,
gutters and sidewalks in such areas be t~ken out ~nd removed.
(b) That combined hydraulic cement concrete curbs and gutters of
the forms, sizes, dimensions and in the particular locations as all are more
fully shown on the plans, profiles, detailed drawings and specifications here-
inafter referred to herein, be constructed on each side of said street ~nd at all
round corner returns at intersections, terminations and mpposite terminations;
the particular width of the concrete ~gutter on Linden Avenue from Baden Avenue to
Miller Avenue shall be six (6) feet wide and on all other portions of Linden
A'~-enue the concrete gutter sh~ll be three (5) feet in width.
lc) That the whole area on each side of said Linden ~.venue, for
the full length thereof, and between the existing cement concrete sidewalk and
the herein prpposed concrete curb be improved by grading for and constructing
thereon a hydraulic cement concrete sidewalk of the sizes and dimensions as
shown on said plans hereinafter referred to; except where such sidewalk is al-
ready constructed and in accordance with the said plans and specifications.
(d) That the portion or portions of Linden Avenue shown on ~he
plans, profiles, detailed drawings and specifications hereinafter mentioned
and marked "A" shall be improved by having the existing pavement brought to
the new grade shown on said plans by adding thereto sufficient aDphaltic con-
crete to bring said pavement to such new grade.
(e) That the portion or portions of Linden Avenue shown on the
plans, profiles, detailed drawings and specifications hereinafter mentioned
and marked "B" shall be improved by having the existing pavement removed and
having ~,aid ~rea or areas repaved with a six (6) inch hydraulic cement con-
crete base and a two (2) inch asphaltic concrete wearing surface.
(f) That the portions of Linden Avenue shown on the plans, pro-
files, detailed drawings and specifications hereinafter mentioned ~ond m~rked
"C" shall be improved by having constructed in such areas a hydraulic cement
concrete sidewalk of the sizes, dimensions, and in the particular locations
as all are more fully shown on s~id plans; provided ~hat in such areas where
there is ~u existing sidewalk, said existing sidewalk shall first be t~ken
out and removed;
(g) That two (2) steel reinforced cement concrete walls with
steel reinforced cement concrete slabs of the forms, sizes, dimensions, and
in the particular locations ~s all are morel ully shown on the plans, pro-
file~, detailed drawings and specifications be constructed in the westerly
side of Linden Avenue; one such wall and slab from ~ point opposite
engineers station lO 80 to & ~oint opposite engineers station ll 4~, and

icular location as shown on said plans;
(h) That the easterly side of Linden Avenue be improved by con-
struction of steel reinforced cement concrete walls with steel reinforced cmment
concrete slabs, steel reinforced cement concretecolumn with steel reinforced
cement concrete beam, all to be of the forms, sizes, dimensions and in the

shown on s~id plans hereinafter referred to; except where such sidewalk is
ready constructed and in accordance with the said plans and specifications.
(d) That the portion or portions of Linden Avenue shown on l:he
plans, profiles, detailed drawings and specifications hereinafter mentioned
and marked "A" shall be improved by having the existing pavement brought to

crete to bring said pavement to such new grade.
(e) That the portion or portions of Linden Avenue shown on the
plans, profiles, detailed drawings and specifications hereinafter mentioned
and marked "B" shall be improved by having the existing pavement removed and
having ~,,aid area or areas repaved with a six (6) inch hydraulic cement con-
crete base and a two (S) inch asphaltic concrete wearing surface.
(f) That the portions of Linden Avenue shown on the plans, pro-
files, detailed drawings and specifications hereinafter mentioned and m~rked
"C" shall be improved by having constructed in such areas a hydraulic cement
concrete sidewalk of the sizes, dimensions, and in the particular locations
as all ~re more fully shown on s~id plans; provided ~hat in such a.reas ~where
there is ~n e×isting sidewalk, said existing sidewalk shall first be t~ken
out and removed;
(g) That two (S) steel reinforced cement concrete walls with
steel reinforced cement concrete slabs of the forms, sizes, dimensions, and
in the particular locations ~s all are moref ully shown on the plans, pro-
file~, detailed drawings and specifications be constructed in the westerly
side of Linden Avenue; one such wall ~nd slab from ~ point opposite
engineers stztion l0 80 to ~ point opposite engineers station ll ~, and
one (i) such wall gnd slab from a point opposite engineers station 1S 8~.~ to a
point opposite engineers station l~ 8.~.8, said walls and slabs to support the
hereinbefore proposed curb and gutter, also that the existing basement doors
in the sidewalk area at the l~st above mentioned wall be re-set at the part~
icular location as shown on said plans;
(h) That the easterly side of Linden Avenue be improved by con-
struction of steel reinforced cement concrete walls with steel reinforced c~ment
concrete slabs, steel reinforced cement concretecolumn with steel reinforced
cement concrete beam, all to be of the forms, sizes, dimensions and in the
particular locations as all are more fully shown on the plans, profiles, de-
tailed drawings and specifications at the following places, to-wit: One (1)
such wall with slab from a point opposite engineers station 9 08.8 to a point
opposite :emgineers station 9 1Z.6 rand One (1) such wall, slab, column and beam
from ~ point opposite engineers station 9 60.8 to a point opposite engineers
statio~ 9 67.E; said walls, slabs, column and beam to support the hereinbefore
proposed curb, gutter and sidewalk; also that the existing baser~:ent doors in the
sidewalk area at the above places be re-set at the particular location as shown
on said plans.
SECTION S.
That the portion of ~,inden Avenue from the northerly line of Armour
Avenue to the westerly line of San Bruno Road be improved m~ follows: to wit:
(a) That said portion of Linden Avenue ~r the i~ll length and width
.thereof be graded, except however any and all such grading work od that portion of
Linden Avenue occupied by the present asphaltic concrete pavement;
(bi That combined hydraulic cement concrete curbs and gutters and
hydraulic concrete sidewalks of the forms, sizes, dimensions and in the particular
lOCations as all are more fully shown on the plans, profiles, detailed drawings and
specifications hereinafter referr.ed to herein, be constructed on each side of said
avenue for the full length thereof;
(c) That the whole remaining roadway area for the full length
of said avenue on both sides of the existing asphaltic .concrete pavement and
between the herein proposed gutters and the existing asphaltic concrete pavement be
paved with a hydraulic cement concrete base pavement six (6~ inches in thickness;
(d) That the whole roadway area between the herein proposed
gutters for the full length of said avenue on the hereinabove proposed concrete
base pavement and also on the existing asphaltic concrete pavement, be paved
width an asphaltic concrete wearing surface of the thickness shown on the ~atd
plans, profiles, detailed drawings and specifications hereinafter referred to;
SECTION
That all existing part circle culverts on Linden Avenue from
Railroad Avenue to Armour Avenue and the existing culvert in Linden Avenue near
its easterly termination be taken out and removed. Aslo that hydraulic cement
concrete pipe storm water sewers or culverts, red burnt brick stormwater catch-
basins capped with cast iron frames and gratings, of the types, diameter, forms,
sizes, dimensions and in the particular locatiozls as all are more fully shown
on the plans, profiles, detailed drawings and specifications hereinafter referred
to,. be constructed at the following places, to-wit:
(a) Two (2) such storm water sewers, with four (4) such catch-
basins in Baden Avenue and Linden Avenue at the ~intersection of Baden Avenue and
Linden Avenue;
(b) One (1) such storm water sewer'~with two (2) such catch-
basins in Miller Avenue and Linden Avenue at the intersection of I~iller Avenue
and Linden Avenue;
(c) Two (2) such storm water sewers, with four (4) such catch-
basins in Lu~ Avenue and Linden Avenue at the intersection of Lux Avenue and
Linden Avenue;
(d) Two (2) such storm water sewers with four (4) such catch-
basins in California Avenue and Linden Avenue at the intersection of California
Avenue and Linden Avenue;
(e) One (1) such storm water sewer with two (2) such catch-
basins in Pine Avenue and Linden Avenue at the intersection of Pine Avenue and
Linden Avenue;
(f) One (1) such storm water sewer with.two (2) such catch-
basins in the intersection of Armour Avenue and Linden Avenue;
(g) One (1) such ~torm water sewer with two (2) such catch-
basins in Linden Avenue from the termination of Hillside Boulevard to the ex-
isting sixty (60) inch storm sewer crossing Linden Avenue e~sterly from said
terminations; and One (1) such catch basin in the easterly gutter of Linden
Avenue over and to connect with said existing sixty (60) inch culvert;
(h) One (l~ such storm water sewer with two (2) such catch-
basins and one (1) red burnt brick manhole capped with cast iron frame and
cover be constructed in, along and across Linden Avenue and in and along San
Bruno Road,. said sewer to extend from the northerly gutter of Linden Avenue,
inm~edi~tely north of the termination of Linden Avenue in San Bruno Road;
running thence to the southerly gutter of Linden Avenue~ thence southeasterly
to the above proposed manhole in San Bruno Road; thence southwesterly along
San Bruno Road for a distance of ll5 feet to an existing twenty-four (24)
inch culvert, said storm sewer to replace ~n existing storm water culvert.
(J) iW~o (2) such catchbasins in the intersection of Grand
Avenue and Linden Avenue, each catch basin to connect with the existing sewer
by the construction of five (~) feet of such storm water sewer, provided
however, that the two (2) existing cast iron catchbasin frames and gratings
shall be used for such new catchbasins.
SECTION 4.
Also that eighty six (86) electroliers consisting of hollow-
spun ~rani'te street li~ht~n~ a~l~mn.~ w~+~ ..... ~^~ .... *
gutters for the full length o~ said avenue on the hereinabove proposed concrete
base pavement and also on the existing asphaltic concrete pavement, be paved
wi,th an asphaltic concrete wearing surface of the thickness shown on the Said
plans, profiles, detailed drawings and specifications horeinafter referred to;
SECTION
That all existing part circle culverts on Linden Avenue from
Railroad Avenue to Armour Avenue and the existing culvert in Linden Avenue near

basins in Baden Avenue and Linden Avenue at the intersection of Baden Avenue and
Linden Avenue;
ih) One (1) such storm water sewer'~with two ~2) such catch-
basins in Miller Avenue and Linden Avenue at the intersection of Miller Avenue
and Linden Avenue;
(cD Two (2) such storm water sewers, with four (4) such catch-
basins in Lu~ Avenue and Linden Avenue at the intersection of Lux Avenue and
Linden Avenue;
(d) Two (2) such storm water sewers with four (4) such catch-
basins in California Avenue and ~Linden Avenue at the intersection of California
Avenue and Linden Avenue;
(e) One (1~ such storm water sewer with two (2) such catch-
basins in Pine Avenue and Linden Avenue at the intersection of Pine Avenue and
Linden Avenue;
(f) One (1) such storm water sewer with.two (2) such catch-
basins in the intersection of Armour Avenue and Linden Avenue;
(g) One (l} such storm water sewer with two (2) such catch-
basins in Linden Avenue from the teNnination of Hillside Boulevard to the ex-
isting sixty (60) inch storm sewer crossing Linden Avenue easterly from said
terminations; and One (1)such catch basin in the easterly gutter of Linden
Avenue over and to connect with said existing sixty (60) inch eulvert;
(h) One (1~ ~uch storm water sewer with two (2) such catch-
basins and one (1) red burnt brick manhole capped with cast iron frame and
cover be constructed in, along and across Linden Avenue and in and along San
Bruno Road, said sewer to extend from the northerly gutter of Linden Avenue,
immediately north of the termination of Linden Avenue in San Bruno Road;
running thence to the southerly gutter of Linden Avenue; thence southeasterly
to the above proposed man_hole in San Bruno Road; thence southwesterly along
San Bruno Road for a distance of ll5 feet to an existing twenty-four (24)
inch culvert, said storm sewer to replace an existing storm water culvert.
(j) ~Rvo (2) such catchbasins in the intersection of Grand
Avenue and Linden Avenue, each catch basin to connect with the existing sewer
by the construction of five (5) feet of such storm water sewer, provided
however, that the two (2) existing cast iron catchbasin frances and gratings
shall be used for such new catchbasins.
SECTION 4.
Also that eighty six (86) electroliers consisting of hollow-
spun granite street lighting columns, Westinghouse Belmont design with Washing-
ton street lighting units and lamsp together with conduit, wires, safety coils
and concrete foundations to the number, of the sizes, dimensions, materials
and in the particular locations as all are more f'ully shown on the plans here-
inafter referred to, be constructed on both sides of Linden Avenue from the
northerly line of Railroad Avenue to the westerly line of San Bruno Road;
AlSo that the existing electroliers on Linden Avenue from
Commercial Avenue t~, Miller Avenue be taken out and removed;
Als0 that the existing conduit and cable on both sides of
Linden Avenue from the northerly line of Commerclal Avenue to the southerly
line of Grand Avenue be removed, provided however that said existing conduit
may be used by the Contractor on the new electrolier system herein provided
for;
Also that the existing conduit on Linlen Avenue from Grand
Avenue te ~iller Avenue be connected in continuous lengths where the above mentioned
electroliers are to be removed and all existing conduit lOWered to a depth below the
herein proposed pavement and new 800 volt cable be installed in such connected con-
duit as all are more fully shOWn on the plans, profiles, detailed drawings and
specifications hereinafter part~icularly referred to.
~ SECTION §.
That a vitrified salt glazed ironstone pipe sanitary sewer
with seven (7) red burnt~ brick manholes capped with cast iron frames and covers be
constructed of the sizes, dimensions and in the particular locations as all are more
fully shown on the plans, profiles, detailed drawings and specificatiQns hereinafter
referred to herein in Linden Avenue and in San Bruno Road, said sewer to extend
from the existing sewer in San Bruno Road to the northerly side of Linden Avenue;
thence easterly and westerly, in and along the northerly side of Linden Avenue and
in and along the w~sterly side of San Bruno Road as more fully shown on said plans;
also that twenty-two (22) four inch' diameter vitrified salt glazed ironstone pipe
lateral or side sewers with twenty-two (22)wye branches of the same material, each
la~teral sixteen (16) feet in length be constructed connecting with the northerly side
of said sanitary sewer and extend northerly .at the particular locations shown on the
said plans.
Whenever the words "Engineers Station" followed by numerals
are used herein the same shall be taken to mean points on the center line of Linden
Avenue and the numerals to mean the distances in feet that such points are distant
measured along the centerline of Linden Avenue from the intersection of the center-
~line e£ said Linden Av,enue and the centerline of Railroad Avenue, said starting point
being marked 0 00 on said plans. All such engineers stations are shown on the said
plans, pro£iles, detailed drawings and specifications hereinafter referred to.
All work herein provided for shall be done in accordance with
the special plans, profiles and specifications for said work, which plans, profiles
and specifications 'are entitled, "Plans, profiles, detailed ~raWings and specifications
for the construction of improvement work upon Linden Avenue between the north curb line
of Railroad Avenue and the west line of San Bruno Road in the City of So~th San Fran-
~, · · .
cisco, County of San Mateo, State of California , which plans, profiles, detailed draw-
ings and specifications were heretofore adopted by said City Council on the 18th day of
November, 1929, and are now on file in the office of the City-Clerk; said work shall be
done to the new grades which are different from thcs heretofore established and adopted
on Linden Avenue and shall be done to the grades shown upon said plans and profiles and
specifications, which grades are hereby established for said said work. Reference is
hereby made to said plans, pro±'iles and specifications for the description of the grade
at which the work is to be done and for a full description of said work and for the
locations and extent of the work to be done hereunder and for a particular description of
the boundaries of the district herein mentioned.
And said City Council does hereby determine and declare that
said proposed work and improvement is of more than local or ordinary public benefit~ and
will affect and benefit the lands and district hereinafter described, which said dis-
trict is hereby declared to he the district benefitted by said work and improvement.
And that therefore the entire costs 'and expenses of said work and improvement shall be
and are hereby made chargeable against and shall be assessed upon said lands and dis-
trict, except as hereinafter expressly provided, which district is within said City
of South San Francisco, County of San Mateo, State of California, and particularly
bounded ~nd described as follows, to-wit:
Beginning at the intersection of the southerly line of Rail-
road Avenue with the easterly line of Linden Avenue; running thence north 74 degrees
27 minutes west, ~60 feet; thence north 15 degrees ~ minutes east 2140 feet; thence
south 74 degrees 27 minutes east, 150 feet; thence north 15 degrees ~3 minutes east,
~60 feet to the southerly line of Pine Avenue; thence south 74 degrees 27 minutes
east, l0 feet; thence north 15 degrees 33 minute's east to a point where said course is
intersected by~a line which is parallel with and distant 200 feet at right angles
northerly from the northeasterly line of Armour Avenue; thence southeasterly along the
said last mentioned line to a point where the same is intersected by a line which is
parallel with and distant 200 feet northerly from the northerly line of Linden Avenue;
thence easterly and southeasterly along said last mentioned line to the easterly line
of San Bruno Road; thence southwesterly along the said easterly line of San Bruno Road
to the southwesterly line of Armour Avenue; thence northwesterly along the said south-
westerly line of .~rmour Avenue to its intersection with a line which is parallel with
and distant 300 feet easterly at right angles from the easterly line of Linden Avenue; thence
south 15 degrees ~ minutes west 1192.44 feet; thence north 74 degrees 27 minutes~ west,
50 feetthence south 15 degrees 3~ minutes west, 720 feet; thence north 74 degrees 27
minutes west 50 feet; thence south 15 degrees 33 minutes west, 740 feet; thence north
~4 degrees 27 minutes west, 25 feet; thence south 15 degrees 33 minutes west, 740 feet;
thence north 74 degrees 27 minutest west, 175 feet to the point o~ beginning; as said
exterior boundary is shown on that certain map entitled '~ap Showing Assessment District
Under Resolution of Intention No. 68, of the City of South San. Francisco, California,"
thence easterly ~nd westerly in and along the northerly side of Linden Avenue and
in and along the w~sterly side of San Bruno Road as more fully shown on said plans;
also that twenty-two (22) four inch~ diameter vitrified salt glazed ironstone pipe~
lateral or side sewers with twenty-two (22)wye branches of the same material, each
l~teral sixteen (16) feet in length be constructed connecting with the northerly side
of said sanitary sewer and extend northerly ~at the particular locations shov~ on the
said plans.

northerly from the northeasterly line of Armour Avenue; thence southemsterly along the
said last mentioned line to a point where the same is intersected by a line which is
parallel with and distant 200 feet northerly from the northerly line of Linden J~venue;
thence easterly and southeasterly along said last mentioned line to the easterly line
of San Bruno Road; thence southwesterly along the said easterly line of San Bruno Ro~d
to the southwesterly line of Armour Avenue; thence northwesterly along the said south-
westerly line of J~rmo~r Avenue to its intersection with a line which is parallel with
and distant Z00 feet easterly at right angles from the easterly line of Linden Avenue; thence

which map is a part of the plans, profiles, detailed drawings and specifications here-
inafter particularly referred to.
Saving and excepting and excluding from said district all
public streets, avenues and alleys, lanes, courts and places included and contained.
The work of constructing the electroliers herein provided
for shall also be done in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in that
certain patent licensee agreement, dated August ~0, 1929, and now on file in the
office of the City Clerk of said City of South San Francisco, U. S. Letters Patent
for such electroliers being held or controlled by Westinghouse Electric & ~anufact-
uring Co., and the contractor, to whom said contract may be awarded, will be re-
quired te procure such electroliers from said Westinghouse electric & ~ianufacturing
Co., as provided in said patent licensee agree~ent.
Notice is hereby given that serial bonds to represent un-
paid assessments and bear interest at the rate of seven (7) per cent per annum will
be issued hereunder in the manner specified in the "Improvement Bond Act of 191~"
and the amendments thereto, the last installment cf which bends shall mature
nine (9) years from the End day of July next succeeding ten (10) months from
their date.

nwwspaper of general circulation, printed and published in said City of South
San Francisco, is hereby designated as the newspaper in which this resolution
of intention shall be published, and the City Clerk is hereby directed te
cause this resolution of intention to be published by two (£) insertions in
the manner and form required by law.
The Shperintendent of Streets shall cause te be conspicuously
posted along the line of said contemplated work or improvement, at not more
than Three Eundred (Z00) feet in distance apart, and ~along all the open streets
within said district and in front of all the property liable to be assessed
and not more than three hundred (ZOO) feet in distance apart, but not less than
three (~) in all in each stre-et in said district, notices of the passage of
this resolution of intention, in the manner and form required by the "Improve-
ment Act of 1911' and the amendments thereto.
Notice is hereby given that on Nonday, the 16th day of Decem-
ber, 19~9,~ at the hour of 7:Z0 o'clock p.m, in the Chamber of the City Council
of the City of South San Francisco, any and all persons having any objections
to the proposed work and improvement may appear before said City~ Council and
show cause why s~aid proposed improvement should not be carried out in accord-
ance with this resolution.
Except as hereinbefore provided, all of thee herein proposed
work shall be done in pursuance of an act of the Legislature of the State of
C~lifornia, des~onated at the "Improvement ~ct~ of 1911 , approved April 7,
191I, and the amendments thereto.
