RESOLUTION ORDERING THE CONSTRUCTION OF
AN ADDITION TO AN ALTERATIONS OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY BUILDING
IN THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO.
RESOLVED by the city council of the city of South San Francisco that public in-
terest and convenience require t~at the following public improveme~t work be done in
said city, to-wit:
A construction of m addition to and the alteration of the public library building
in the city of South San Francisco.
All wox~ shall be done in accordance with the plans and specifications heretofore
adopted by said city council for said work. Ail such work and the materials to be used
in connection therewith shall be furnished under the direction and to the satisfaction
of Henry H. Gutte~son, tn, architect who has been employed by said city of South San
F~ancisco to supervise t~e same.
Said city council hereby ascertains that the general prevailing rate of per diem
wages, in said city, and tn, general prevailing rates for legal holidays and overtt~m-_
work, in said city, applicable to the work to be done are as follows:

in "The' Enterprise", a newspap6r of general circulation published and printed in the
City of South 'San F~ancisco, w~ich notice shall b e substantially in the following

Notice is hereby given that Sealed proposals or bids will be received by the city
council of the City of South San Francisco on' Monday, the. 1Vth day of June, 1940, until
the hou~ of 8:00 o'clock p. me for doing the ~ollowing public work in said city, to-wit:
Construction of an addition to and alterabion of the public library building in the
City of South 3an Francisco.

The contract to be awarded s~all contain a fu~t~er stipulation that the con
tractor, to whom such contract may be awarded, shall use or supply only such un
manufactured articles, materials, and supplies as may have been mined or produc
in the United States and only such manufactured articles, materials, and suppli
that have been manufactured in the United States, substantially from all a~ttcl
materials or supplies mined, produced, or so manufactured, as the case may be,
the United States, excepting only where such articles, materials, or supplies o
the class or kind to be used, or the articles, materials or supplies from which
they are manufactured are not mined, produced or manufactured, as the case may
in the United States, as required by an act of the Legislature of the State of
California entitled: "An act to require the use of materials and supplies sub-
stantially p~oduoed in the UnitedStates, in public works and for public purpos

The successful bidder shall, withi~ ten (10) days after the award, enter in
a contract with the City of South San Francisco for the faithful performance of
work to be done under said award. Ail sealed proposals or bids shall be acccmpanied by a check
payable to the. City of South San. Francisco, certified by a responsible bank in the State of
California for. an amount which shall not be less than ten Il0) percent of the aggregate of the
proposal. If the proposal be accepted and the contract awarded and if the bidders ~aall fail
and neglect to execute a contract and give the bonds required, the sum mentioned in said
check shall be liquidated damages for such failure and neglect and shall be forfeited to
and paid into the treasury of the City of South San Francisco. The bidder to whom thecon-
tract is awarded will be required to execute a bond for the faithfml performance of his work
in an amount equal to fifty (BO) percent of the amount of the undertaking executed by some
corporate surety company authorized to transact business in t~e State of C.alifornia. Subh
bond shall insure the City of South San Francisco, during the life of the contract and for one
(1) year following the date of tA~e acceptance of the work against faulty or impropeP materials
or workmanship that may be discovered during that period Of time; and will also be required,
before entering upon the work, to furnish a good and sufficient bond, executed by such
porate surety company, as required by an act of the legislature of the State of California,
approved May 10, 19L9, entitled: WAn act to secure the payment of the claims of persons em-
ployed by contractors upon pnblic work and_ the claims of persons who furnish materials,
supplies, teams, implements or machinery used. or consumed by such contractor in the per-
formance of such works, and prescribing the duties of certain public officers with respect
thereto", Chapter 303 of the Statutes of California, 1BLS.
Plans and specifications for said work may be obtained at the office of Henry H.
Gutterson, a~chitect, at No. ~26 Powell Street, San Francisco, California, by qualified
contractors desiring to bid on the work.~ A deposit of TenD oilars $10.00 will be required
for each set of plans and specifications. This sum of money will be refunded upon the
return of such set in good condition.
Sealed proposals or bids will be delivered to the city clerk on or before ~:00 o'clock'
p. m. on Monday, the 17th day of June, l~AOe
All sealed proposals will be op~ned by said city council in public session on Monday,
