HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 960-1944RESOLUTION TO URgE CALIFO.~NIA STATE HIGHWAY CO~IS$ION AND THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TO INCLUDE EL CAMINO REAL AND SUPPLEMENTAL ROUTES IN ITS PLANNING PROGRAM. Resolved by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco~ THAT WHEREAS, E1 Camino Real is one of the major highways through San Mateo County, and carries a large part of the automobile traffic originating in the westerly part of San Francisco, in addition to much local traffic in San Mateo County, AND WHEREAS, under present conditions, said high-way from Redwood City northerly, is inadequate to properly handle said traffic during peak loads, AND VJHEREAS, a large increase in automobile traffic is to be expected after the war, adding to the congestion on said highway, NND WHEREAS, there appears to be a possible supplemental route, using the present street car right-of-way of the San Francisco Municipal Railways and adjoining streets from Sa~Mateo to Colma, with a connection to Linden Avenue at South San Francisco, AND WHEREAS, it would be of great value, both to the communities of San Mateo County and to the owners of property along or adjacent to said highway, to know what the ultimate width and type of said highway is to be, N(~¥ THEREFORE, be it resolved, that the California Highway Commission, and the Depar~ ment of Public Works of the State of California be urged to take immediate action to include said El Camino Real and supplemental routes in its planning program, and to complete said plans and furnish copies thereof to the interested communities at as early a date as possible.
