TO SAN MATED TRANSIT TO PROVIDE ~S TNA~
~TION SERVICE ~ SAN ~RUNO AND SO~'TH
SAN FP. ANCISOO AND IN SOUT~ SAN FRANCISCO.
W}~PWAS the California Railroad Oommission has granted the application of San Mateo ~ransit
to provide bus transportation service between San Bruno and South San Francisco, and also in South San
Francisco, and also between San Bruno depot and the United Airlines building, the Pan American Airways
plant and the United States Coast ~ plant; and
WHEREAS there is no bus or other transportation service adequate for such ~urposes and the
needs of large numbers o£ workers employed in the various industrial plants located in South San Francisco; mud
WHEREAS there are many thousands of workers, who are employed in the Various industrial plants
in South San Francisco, some of whom reside within the City of South San Francisco and some of whom reside in
San Bruno, and a large number of these persons do not have automobiles; and
VgHEREAS many automobiles, now in use by workers employed in said plants, are deteriorating
by reason of long continued use and later will become impaired to such extent that their use will be hazard-
our; and
WHEREAS the families of many of said workers do not have ready and adequate transportation to
enable them to do necessary shopping and are obliged to walk distances which are unreasonably lone, in order
to do such sh~pping, and, at the same time, carry purchases made by them; and
WHEREAS the service proposed by said San Mateo T~ansit will be economical for all the workers
and the families of such workers, who may find it convenient to use such services and will result in prolong-
ing the possible use of many private automobiles owned by said workers;
RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that public convenience and
necessity require the service proposed to be given by said San Mateo T~ansit, aa aforesaid, and that said
City Council respectfully requests the Office of Defense Transportation to grant permission to said San Mateo
Transit to render the service proposed in its application.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City
Council of the City of South San Francisco this 19th day of December, 1944, by the following vote:
