HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1329A-1948 RESOLUTION NO. 1329 A PILLARi'POINT BREAKWATER AT HALF MOON BAY, CAL. ~5~2~EAS, on January 20th, 19&8, the Board of Review for Rivers and Harbors of the U. S. Army Engineers in Washington, D. C. recommended the construction of $4,500,000 breakwater at Pillar Point, Half MoOn Bay, California about twenty miles south of San Francisco, and WHERE~S, Governor Earl Warren on March 9th, after reviewing the recommendations of the Army Engineers and the commentS Ofthe agencies of the State of California concerned with the breakwater project, strongly recommended that Congress authorize and appropriate funds for this Half Moon Bay Breakwater at an early date, and WHEREAS, The Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County by formal resolutions, a~opted on May 5th, 1927, a4d again on December 16th, 1947, has pledged its complete support to the Pillar Point ~reakwater project to the extent of a $100,000 cash contribution, and the equivalent of $400,000 for royalty-free rock, providing easemenSs, rights-of-way and public wharf facilities and WHEREAS, The Half Moon Bay project has the official endorsement and support of the Board of Super- visors Sf San Mateo County, the State Chamber of Commerce, the state organizations of labor and the chambers of commerce of San Francisco and Santa Cruz and of the major communities of San~Mateo County, and WHEREAS, Among other things, this breakwater will: 1.-Provide the only safe harbor and place of refuge for small craft between San Francisco and Monterey; 2.-Make available added facilities for commercial and sports fishermen; 3.-Bring business and industry to the Half Moon Bay area;. 4.-Provide additional safe swimming beaches and recreation facilities for people of California; 5.-Help prevent serious erosion of sections of the shoreline of San MateoOounty, and ~EREAS, The breakwater project for Half Moon Bay will soon come before Congress, where it first will be referred to the ~ublic Works Committee of the House, and WHEREAS, This Breakwater will involve the expenditure of more.than $2,000,000 of Federal Funds for ti improvement of the California Coast, now therefore be it RESOLVED, That this organization endorse and pledge its active support to the Pillar Point Breadwate proJect~ and be it further RESOLVED, That we call upon Congress to authorize this project and to vote funds for the constructio at the Sarliest possible date and be it fimmlly RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution and an appropriate letter be sent to Senators William Knowlan~ and Sheridan Downey, the Congressman from this area, and that the press and the Pillar Point Breakwater Committee, Half Moon Bay, be notified of this action. Adopted at a meeting of the City ~of South San Francisco, held.at South San Francisco, on April 5th, 1928 by lDaniel J. Hyland, City Clerk. . I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco, this 5th day of April, 1928, by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Chas. ~.
