HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1743-1952RESOLI!TION NO. 1V~3 Whereas it has come to the attention of this City Council that a large majority of the per~sons.~res£ding in South woo~], a subdivision of this Cit~, have, by a vote at an election, which was not sponsored b¥1this City Council and was entirelvunoffictal, expressed their oppos- ition t~ the acquisition of a home by ~r. Sing ShenS and his family ~in that subdivision; and Whereas said election was conducted at the request o~ ~r. Sheng, after he had learned of some opposition to ~im as a prospective resident in that subdivision; and Whereas ~r. Sheng is a man of high intelligence and of thee best character and is entirely~.worthy; and Whereas the vote t~ken in that subdivision reoresents only a sm~ll fraction of the entire pop lation of this City, and we confidently believe that the overwhelming majority of the reside~ts of this City are actuated iy the principles of democrac.~ and are opposed to racial pre judice, _~ Resolve~ by the City Co~mcil of the City of South San Francisco that this City Council~ ~and each member thereof, affirms its, and their, uneq~ivocal belief and faith in the ~emocratic prin iples U~on which the government of the United States anf of each state in the Union rests, and deplores and disavows the expression of opposition to~ Mr. Sheng and his family as residents of the Southwood subdivision of this Cit~. Be it Further rescinded that this City Cou~cil declares th?t the legal r~ghts of ~r. Sheng and his family, '.'ith respect to acquistion of a place of residence in any part of the City of South San Francisco are in no wa? impaired. I here~y certify that the foregoin5 resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco on the 18th day of February, 198~, by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Victor ~oido, Charles K.
