STEADMAN FOR l~$tOIC CONDUCT. ~ on SatUrday afternoon, December 11, 19~, Waitus Lockman, Jr. ,of No. 150 FranCiscO Drive City of South San FranciSco, a thirteen (13) year o1~ ~tu~eut~while hikimg through the woode with Robert R. Steadman, of No. 607 Larch Avenue, City of South San FrancisCo, ~eCame trapped' in a mud hole located to the South of the Buri Buri Subdivision, and as a result t~-_reof Could not free 'himself; and ~EE~EAS said Robert R. Steadman, also a thirteen (13) year old student, UPon freeing himself 'from'the aforesaid quagmire, removed his shirt and attempted to free Waitus Lockman, Jr. by using the shirt as a rC~e, and UPon failing to free the boy by this means ran to a farmh~e and finally brought about the rescue 'of' said Waitus LOc~, Jr. with the assistance of the South San Francisco Fire Department, all of which was an outstemd- ing example of clear, cool thinking and of valor and heroic conduct, NOW, THEREFOBE, HE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Fraacisco that Robert R. Stea~m~n be, and he hereby is, recognized as a hero, and this City Council does therefore extend to him its v~ry highest c~ndation for the manner in which he conducted himself in so rescuing his schoolmate un, mr conditions involving extreme danger to himself. HE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this re~lution be spread upon the Official Minutes of the City Council and that a parchment copy thereof be forwarded to ROBERT R. STEADMAN. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 3rd day of January, 1955, by the following vote: AYES: CO%rNC//REN Richard Gamlen, Francis Lucchio, Telford Smith, Emilio Cortesi, and Andrew Rocca NOES: " None ABSENT: " None ATTEST: ARTHUR A.
