HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2127-1955RE~ O~JUTION NO. 2127 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO URGING 0PPOSX~ION TO A PROPOSED MEA2URE PEND~NG BEFORE THE CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATURE, ASSE~IBLY DIVISION THEREOF, %"K~ICH WOULD LIMIT THE POTCERS OF CITIES TO I~IPOSE BUSINESS LICENSE TAXES. WHEREAS it has been broughh to the attention of the City 0ouncil of the City of South San Francisco that there is pending before the California State Legislature, Assembly Division thereof, a certain Bill, designated as A. B. 591, which woul~, prohibit~ every city in the State of California from imposingbus~ness license taxes or fees against persons or firms having no fixed place of bus'ness within the particular city; and WHEHEAS such a limitation upon the taxing powers of cities would adversely affect to a great debree the tax-raising powers of s ai~. cities and work a serious hardship insofar as the operating budgets of said cities are concerned in that an important source of revenue will be thereby eliminated; and WHEREAS, because of the discriminatory aspects of s~ch a limitation, it will be inadvisable for cities to enforce business licensee taxes or fees against local business establis~mnents, thus fu~ther interfering with the fund-raising powers of cities, NOW, THERefORE, BE IT RE~0LVED by said City Council that the Legislature of the State of California be notified that said City ~Council is opposed to the enactment of any such proposed legislation. In this connection, the City Clerk of said City is hereby instructed to forward certified copies of this resolution to Assemblyman Stanley, Chairman of the Assembly Committee on ~unicipal and County Government, and, in adddtion, %o Honorable Harry L. Par~anan, Senator from the T...~enty-flrst Senatorial District, and to Honorable Richard J. Dolwlg, Assemblyman from the T~enty-sixth Legislative District.
