A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO REQUESTING AND URGING THE
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO
TO DO AND PERFORM EVERYTHING NECESSARY AND PROPER
SO THAT SESSIONS OF THE SUPERIOR COURT OF T~{E
STATE OF CALIFORNIA IN AND FOR THE COUNTY OF SAN
MATEO MAY BE HELD IN THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO.
WHEREAS there are considerably '~,ore than 100,O00 people residing in the
northern portion of the County ef San Marco, and whereas there are a ~reat many industries,
beth large and small, and commercial business establishments situate in said portion of
San Mateo County; and
~5~EREAS people residing in said portion of San Mateo County and, in part-
icular, within the City of South San Francisco, are entitled te convenient access to the
S~perior Court of the State of California in and for said County, in which their legal rights
and legal problems can be determined and settled; and
~tEREAS The di~ hall ef the City of South San Francisco is more than eight
(8) miles distant from the courthouse of the County ef San Marco, which is situate in the
City ef Redwood City in said County, and whereas the population of said City numbers in
excess of 35,000 people, to-wit, 35,690 persons, as established by an official population
census recently conducted in said City, the same having been completed en the 8th day ef
March 1956, and having been confirmed ~m the 6th day of April 1956 by the United States
Department of Commerce, Bureau ef the Census; and
~JHEREAS the City Council ef the City of South San Francisco desires te
assist and cooperate with the Beard of Supervisors ef theCounty ef San Marco so that the
latter body may perform its duty by providing ~uitable rooms and facilities for the holding
of sessions of said Superior Court in said City of'SoUth San FranciscO, including the
providin~ of chambers for the Judges ef said Courts'together with sufficient attendants,
furniture, and furnishingS, and all reqUia~te supplieS, all as provided by Sectiens 68,073
and 69,7~2 of the Government Cede ef the State of California,
NOW, TMEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City ef South
San Francisco that ~dr~tSr~u~c~deesfhs~eb2o~Andfahded~ermine that the required holding
of sesaions of the Superior Ceurt of the State ef Califernia in and for the County of San
Mateewithin the City of South San Francisco shall be to the best interests and welfare of
the people ef all northern San Matee County and, in particular, the people of said City ef
South San Fr~ncisce. Accordingly, said City ~Ceuncil does hereby request the'Beard ef
Supervisors of the County ef San~ateo to take all necessary and proper steps, including
the enactment of appropriate legislation, so that the holding ef sessions ef said Superior
Court within the City of South San Francisco may ~e provided for with a minimum of delay.
In this cormection, said City Council does hereby declare that it will lend the assistance
ef the City of South San Francisco towards providing suitable quarters and facilities for
the holding of sessions of said Superier Ceurt within said City.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall, and he is hereby directed
to, forward Certified copies of this resolution to the Beard ef Supervisors ef said Ceunty
of San Mateo.
