A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
SAN FRANCISCO AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO NEGOTIAGE WITH
THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO SCAVENGER COMPANY, A COPARTNERSHIP,
FOR THE PURPOSE OF 'OBTAINING A CONTRACT TO BE ENTERED
INTO BETWEEN SAID CITY AND SAID SCAVENGER COMPANY WITH RESEECT
TO THE MAINTENANCE A[~ID CPERATION OF A FILL~AND- COVER
GAREAGE DISi~OSAL SITE I~..~ITHIN SAID CITY.
WHEREAS the present garbage disposal site for the City of South San Francisco
(which site is located u[~on property owned by the South San Francisco Land and Improvement Compah~
a corooration, at the end of Butler Road, within said City) will soon be unavailabe for use as
such garbage disposal site due to the fac~ that the capacity of said site will have been exhausted
and;
,~=~, it is also important that a site be obtained which is near at hand
and is readily accessible so that garbage disposal can be accomplished at a minimum of cost;
and
I~fHEREAS the City of South San Franciscolis the o,~ner in fee of certain tide
l~nds situate on the Bay in the ~icinity of the city-owned~ park at the ~nd of Butler Road,
~ich tide lands are presently unusable except as a mooring spot for a few small boats; and
'~,,,,~m~m~'o, according to sound engineering information, much of the area of
said tide lands can be recovered and converted into a suitable and proper recreational area;
and
WHEREAS BY the use of said tide lands as a site for fill-and-cover garbage
disposal operations said City can recover said area for recreational purposes at a minimum of
cost and expense to City; and
,~mR=AS the South San Francisco Scavenger Company, a copartnership, has
indicated a willingness to undertake for City the recovery of said tide lands by use of the
same as a site for fill-and-cover garbage disposal operations; and
W}{~R=Ao, in addition, said South San Francisco Scavenger Company has
offered to pay to the City of South San Francisco a sum of money, hereafter to be agreed
upon, which shall constitute additional consideration for an exclusive franchise allowing
said scavenger company to collect all garbage, refuse, or other waste material within the
confines of said Oity; and

WHEREAS it will be to the benefit of said City to enter into such franchise agree-
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Fran-
cisco that said City, acting by and through its Mayor and other proper officials and officers,
shall conduct negotiations with said South San Francisco Scavenger Company for the purposes as
hereinabove set forth.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in the event negotiations with said South San Francisco
Scavenger Company shall prove successful, the Mayor of said City is hereby authorized to execute
a contract in that regard on behalf of said City, with the City Clerk thereof being hereby
directed to attest to the same and to affix thereto the corporate seal of said City, and upon
the execution of such contract, the same shall be a binding agreement subject only to the ratifi-
cation thereof by said City Council at its next ensuing regular meeting.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was. ~gularly introduced and adopted
by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a ~egular meeting held this 2nd day
of July 1956, by the following vote:
Ayes, Councilmen G. J. Rozzi, Andrew Rocca, Emilio Cortesi, Francis Lucchio,
and Leo Ryan.
Noes - none.
