A RESOLUTION OF ~]~ CITY CO~:CIL OF T}~ CITY OF
SOUTH S.A~; FRANCISCO OPPOSING THE GIVING OF ANY
FURTHER MILITARY AID TO TF~ COUNTRY OF YUGOSI~.VIA
AND URGING THE UNITED STATES St~ATORS FROM THE
STATE OF CALIFOHNIA AND THE CONG]~.ESSIONAL
REPRF~ENTATIVE FROM THE NINTH CONGRESSIONAL
DIo~RI~.~T OF SAID STATE TO RF23IST THE ENACTMENT
OF CONGRESSIONAL LEGISEATION AUTHORIZING ANY
SUCH AID.
h~EREAS the Country of Yugoslavia has been for several year~, and still is, under the control
and domination of persons who are allied with, and favor, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which
latter country ~as consistently, during the past several years, shown great hostility towards the United
~tates of America; and
t'.~ER~EAS the Premier of said Country of Yugoslavia, ~rshall Tito, has, on numerous occasions,
conducted hLmslef in ~ very unfriendly manner towards said United States of America and other nations of
the free world; and
~EREAS said Country of Yugoslavia has, in many instances, acted in concert with, and given
aid and comfort to, said Union of Soviet Socialist Republiws, and
~'~EAS said United States of Amen. ca has heretofore given military aid to saidCount~/ of
YugoSlavia in order to permit said country to be independent and to remain free and clear of domination
by said Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which purpose has failed dO accomplishment; and
Z~EREAS in some cases the military aid given to said Country of Yugoslavia by said United
States of America has actually been diverted in a manner inimical to the best interests of said United
States of America and other nations of the free world,
NOW, ~EP~FORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco ~hat
said City Council shall, and hereby does, oppose the giving of further military aid to said Country of
yugoslavia. In addition, said City Council does here urge that all United States Senators, particularly
honorable William Knowland and Honorable Thomas Kuchel, United States Senators from the State of California,
and Honorable J. Arthur Youn~er, the United States representative from the Ninth Congressional District
of the State of California, act to o~)pose the adoption ~f any legislation providing for the giving of
further military aid to said Country of Yugoslavia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLV~) that the City Clerk of said City shall, and he is instructed to,
forward certified copies of this resolution to Bnited States Senators William Knowland and Thomas Kuchel,
and Congressman J. Arthur Youn~er.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by
the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held this
15th day of October 1956, b~ the following vote:
