'~;N~LREAS, A Uniform Sales and Use Tax is now being proposed for adoption by the County of San Mateo, and the Citieswithin ~ County, the adoption of which would have a deep and lasting effect on the taxpayers of the County, and ~.~EREAS, strong protests have arisen, even to the extent of a proposed initiative by the organization known as C 0 S T, and $~E~EAS, the City of South San Francisco in addition to many informal expressions of opposition, has received written protests from: San Mateo County Manufacturers Associ8tion on June 12, 1956. Central Labor Council of San }~teo, on }~y 25, 1956 San Mateo County Restaurant and Tavern Owners Association on August 15, 1956 ~ERF~S, this substantial protest indicates a desire on the part of a large segment of voters to express themselves effectively and lastingly against a 3ales and Use Tax, and ]~{EREAS, as a legislative body we are attentive to this substantial protest and further believe that in this matter we should take tke necessary steps to have gover=ment respond to the wishes of the voters by providing an election so that the proponents and opponents may have a full opportunity to vote on a measure that will h~ve such a deep and lasting effect, N0tl.~THEI?EFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the South San Francisco City Council, does hereby request that the San Fmteo County Board of Supervisors refer the matter of a Sales and Use Tax Ordinance to the voters of the County at a regular election or special election called for that purpose. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 17th day of December 1956, b~ the following vote: AYES: Councilmen G.
