A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO CALLING FOR SPECIAL OBSERVANCE
OF MEMORIAL DAY
WHEREAS, each year the 30th day of May has traditionally been set aside as
a day for special observance, one on which to honor the departed Veterans for loyal
service to their country; and
WHEREAS, each year since the year 1868, this day has generally been devoted
to the display of our Nation's Flag; to the decoration of graves; and to the holding
of appropriate exercises.in the various Cemeteries throughout our Land, and
WHEREAS,in accordance with this tradition "Decoration Day Ceremonies" have
been held each year, since its dedication, at the Golden Gate National Cemetery at
San Bruno, California, under the joint auspiCes of the San Mateo-San Francisco
United Veterans Co-ordinating Coanaittee, assisted by the various Veteran County
Councils and their Auxiliaries, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, and the San
Mateo County Council of Boy Scouts:
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY PROCLAIMED that Friday, May 30, 1958, shall
be and is. hereby declared an official holiday throughout South San Francisco; and
that on this said date the Flag of the United States of America shall be dutifully
displayed on all public buildings in the City.
General observance by all City residents, through display of the flag and/
or attendance at the Memorial 'Day Ceremonies at Golden Gate National Cemetery,
"The Arlington of the West", at 10:30 a.m., May 30, 1958, is urgently invited as
a voluntary expression of patriotic support for this most impressive program.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly
introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 19th day of May, 1958, by the
following vote:
AYES, Councilmen G. J. Rozzi, Andrew Rocca, Leo J. Ryan and Patrick E.
Ahern.
NOES, None
ABSENT, Councilman Emilio Cortesi
