HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2656-1958RESOLUTION NO. 2656 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO REQUESTING UNDERTAKING OF A PROJECT UNDER PUBLIC LAW 685 WHEREAS, the Colma Creek is a main outlet for the drainage of surface run-off in the northerly part of San Mateo County, and WHEREAS, a substantial portion of the watershed of the Colma Creek lies in the unincorporated territory of the County, and WHEREAS, the main outlet channel of the Colma Creek lies principally within the city limits of South San Francisco, and WHEREAS, flood waters have upon many occasions, and especially during the 1955- 56 storms and the 1958 storms, caused a considerable amount of damage in the area adjacent to the Creek's channel, and WHEREAS, there continues to exist in that area an extreme flood hazard during periods of heavy run-off, and WHEREAS, the elimination of said flood hazard appears to be beyond the scope or ability of the local jurisdiction to handle and finance, and WHEREAS, the United States Army Corps of Engineers under Public Law 685 have been authorized to construct flood control projects under similar circumstances, and WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco desires to request the undertaking of Such a project by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and WHEREAS, the City of South San FranCisco desires to urge the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo to request the undertaking of such a project by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY FURTHER DETERMINED AND ORDERED AS FOLLOWS: 1. That it is in the public interest to perform flood control work on the water- shed and/or channels of the Colma Creek and its tributaries in the northerly area of the County, and 2. That the United States Army Corps of Engineers is hereby requested and urged to undertake a project for the control of flood on the Colma Creek in the City of South San Francisco under the provisions of Public Law 685, and 3. That the City Clerk be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to send cer- tified copies of this resolution to the District Engineers, United States Army Corps of Engineers, San Francisco, California, and to the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held this 16th day of June, 1958, by the following vote: AYES, Counc i lmen NOES, None ABSENT, None G.
