HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2904-1959RESOLUTION NO. 2904 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO OPPOSING REPEAL OF THE "BUY AMERICAN ACT' WHEREAS, the continued sound growth of California's economy requires the cre- ation of 250,000 new jobs annually, and WHEREAS, California's wage standards must be met and maintained for these new jobs to preserve the State's high level of compensation, and WHEREAS, substantial investments in land, buildings, tools and equipment must be attracted and encouraged to create the required jobs, and WHEREAS, the particular laws of California known as the "BUY A~ERICAN ACT" enables California industries and businesses to market their products to public agencies at competitive American prices which maintains adequate wage standards and supports operations without government subsidies and therefore encourages the required invest- ments in land, b ui.lding, tools and equipment, and WHEREAS, repeal of said particular laws would permit an unfair use of said market by making American industries supplying said public agencies compete with manu- factured goods supported by foreign government subsidies and low labor costs, (said costs in some instances being as. low as one-eighth of the hourly wage scale in California industries). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that said Council hereby opposes the repealing of the particular California laws known as the "BUY AMERICAN ACT' by the enactment of Assembly Bill No. 335 and Senate Bill No. 251 or any bi.11 having similar provisions. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly intro- duced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 16th day of November, 1959, by the following vote: AYES, NOES, Councilmen Andrew Rocca, Emilio Cortesi, G.
