HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 3036-196094' RESOLUTION NO. 3036 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO APPOINTING A SUBCOMMITTEE AND ORDERING HEARINGS TO DETERMINE MEANS OF ALLEVIATING THE MENACE TO HEALTH, SAFETY AND PROPERTY OF THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO WHEREAS, jet flights from San Francisco International Airport take off in a path across the City of South San Francisco through the San Bruno Gap and thereby threaten the safety, health of the residents and the use and enjoyment of property in said City, and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to, ~by public hearings, develop suf- ficient evidence and information on which t° baSe appropriate legal action and legislative and regulatory enactments and petition other legislative bodies therefor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED bY the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that a subcommittee of the City Council shall conduct hearings call- ing before it witnesses and obtaining evidence of'whatever nature miy be're4uired to determine the threat and menace to safety) health of the residents and the use and enjoyment of property occasioned by flight of Jets on take off from San Fran- cisco International Airport over the City of South San Francisco. 2. That said subcommittee establish headquarters for the processing of information at Magnolia School and that a sum of ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000.00) be appropriated for the subcommittee's operating expenses. That further the City Council establish an operating budget for the subcommittee in the 1960-61 budget. 3. That the City Attorney be permitted to represent individual claimants in the City of South San Francisco and that said claims may be processed through the headquarters established at Magnolia SChool. 4. That the subcommittee and City Attorney shall undertake to enlist the support of city officials, city attorneys and county counselors throughout the United States, particularly those experiencing the same problems as the City of South San Francisco in jet operations over residential areas with the purpose of pro- posing congressional action or regulatory action by the appropriate agencies to pro- hibit jet take off flights over heaVily populated areas. 5. That the subcommittee shall compose into a format or brochure South San Francisco's program for alleviation of the jet threat to safety, health of the residents, and the use and enjoyment of property and furnish to cities experiencing the same problems throughout the United States. 6. That when the subcommittee has compiled sufficient evidence and in- formation~r legal action by way of regulation .or actions before courts or other tribunals, the subcommittee shall authorize said action by the City Attorney and submit proposals to the City Council for ratification. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held this 20th day of June, 1960, by the following vote: AYES, Councilmen Andrew Rocca, G.
