HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 3163-1961RESOLUTION NO. 3163 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO SUPPORTING SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY'S APPLICATION TO THE INTERSTATE COMMERCE COMMISSION FOR ACQUISITION OF STOCK CONTROL OF THE WESTERN PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY. WHEREAS, Southern Pacific Company has applied to the Interstate Commerce Commission for permission to acquire stack control of The Western Pacific Railroad Company;and ~ WHEREAS, this stock control will permit substantial savings to both railroads through joint use of facilities and the elimination of much wasteful duplication; and WHEREAS, the resultant savings will enhance the ability ofboth railroads to move forward with plant and equipment improvements of benefit to the shipping public; and WHEREAS, controls exercised by the Interstate Commerce Commission and competition from other forms of transportation will adequately protect the public interest if the stock control is authorized; and WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco has business and industry within its boundaries and therefore has a direct interest in the development of improved rail transportation service by reason of the importance of railroad transportation to the economy in this area and to this City; BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of South San Francisco supports the applications of the Southern Pacific Company in Finance Docket Nos. 21314 and 21315, to acquire control of The Western Pacific Railroad Company through stock ownership, and authorizes the communication of this posi~tion to the Interstate Commerce Commission. I hereby certify ~hat the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held this 17th day of April, 1961, by the following vote: AYES, COUNCILMEN NOES, " ABSENT, " Andrew Rocca, Patrick E.
