HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 3216-1961RESOLUTION NO. 3216 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO RECOMMENDING THAT THE CHARTER OF THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO BE AMENDED TO PROVIDE FOR ELECTION OF SUPERVISORS FROM A SUPERVISORIAL DISTRICT BY THE ELECTORS REPRESENTED IN THAT DISTRICT WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo is one of the few counties in the State of California electing Supervisors by the county at large, and WHEREAS, the basic reason for adopting this system in 1932 was to eliminate the local district political pressures in the expenditure of County funds, and W~ERFAS, due to the transformation of the County of San Mateo in the intervening twenty-eight years, the basic reason for adopting this system is no longer valid, and WHE~, the Board of Supervisors is the responsible countywide legislative and policy- making body, and WHERFAS, each citizen in every district can be directly affected by the Board's actions, and WHEREAS, it is desirable that the members of the Board be selected by voters who have an opportunity to become acquainted with them and their qualifications, and WHEREAS, the present manner of electing Supervisors does not lend itself to achieving this desirable end, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the County of San Mateo ~nd its Charter to provide that each Supervisor shall be nominated and elected only by the electors of the supervisorial district which he represents. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held this 19th day of June, 1961, by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen: Noes · Absent, " G.
