HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 3217-1961244 RESOLUTION NO. 3217 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO RECOMMENDING AMEI~DMENT OF THE CHARTER OF THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO TO PROVIDE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF BOUNDARIES OF SUPERVISORIALDISTRICTS WHEREAS, equality of representation is a fundamental principle of democratic government, and WHERF2~, the County's supervisorial districts have not been redistricted since 1930 at which time the total population of San Mateo County was 77,405, and WHEREAS, the population of San Mateo County has grown to 445,000, and WHEREAS, there now exists a large difference between various supervisorial districts in respect to the number of electors, and WHEREAS, this difference results in gross inequality of representation on the Board of Supervisors, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the County of San Mateo amend its Charter to provide that it be mandatory for the Board of Supervisors to set boundaries of supervisorial districts within three years after each decennial Federal census so that no supervisorial district will have less than 17% nor more than 23% of the total County popmlation. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held this 19th day of June, 1961, by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen: Noes, " Absent, " G.
