HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 17-2014RESOLUTION NO. 17 -2014 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION AMENDING PERSONNEL RULES AND REGULATIONS, RULE 11.02, EXTENDING THE PROBATIONARY PERIOD FOR PARAMEDIC FIREFIGHTERS FROM 12 TO 18 MONTHS WHEREAS, pursuant to Personnel Rules and Regulations 11.02 "Duration ", Paramedic Firefighters serve a 12 -month probationary period; and WHEREAS, the increased length of the Fire Academy has resulted in too short a time to assess on-the-job performance of Paramedic Firefighters after they complete the Fire Academy; and WHEREAS, staff and IAFF Local 1507 agree that extending the probationary period for Paramedic Firefighters from 12 to 18 provides a more reasonable length of time to assess the job performance of new Paramedic Firefighters; and WHEREAS, On January 21, 2014, pursuant to Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule 2.06, the Personnel Board recommended that the City Council amend Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule 11.02, extending the probationary period for Paramedic Firefighters from 12 to 18 months; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hereby amends Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule 1102, to read as follows: All regular and promotional appointees shall serve a probationary period of not less than one year of actual service and may be extended by mutual agreement not to exceed six additional months. The probationary period for the Police Officer and Paramedic Firefighter classifications shall be 18 months.
