CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF
$31,200 IN GRANT FUNDING FROM THE NATIONAL
RECREATION AND PARK ASSOCIATION TO SUPPORT
CHILDREN'S HEALTH IN THE AFTER SCHOOL
RECREATION PROGRAMS AND AMENDING THE PARKS
AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT 2013/14 OPERATING
BUDGET
WHEREAS, the National Recreation and Park Association's Out -of- School Time
Program is an initiative to support efforts in providing healthy meals, nutrition literacy and
nutrition and physical activity standards for children; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation was awarded $31,200 in grant
funds to support children's health in the After School Recreation Programs; and
WHEREAS, $31,200 in grant funding will be utilized to amend the Department's
2013/14 operating budget to fund an increase in the number of healthy meals provided to the
children in our Summer Camp and After School Programs, create behavior change through
health literacy, implement nutrition and physical activity standards, purchase new refrigerators
for increased food storage, and purchase supplies needed to develop and maintain a plot in the
Departments community garden; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of these funds does not commit the City to ongoing funding after
the close of the grant cycle; and
WHEREAS, receipt of these grant funds will enable the Parks and Recreation
Department to implement programs and services which are not otherwise funded, and support the
health of children in our Summer Camp and After School Recreation Programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City Council hereby authorizes the acceptance of $31,200 in grant funding
from the National Recreation and Park Association to support children's health and amending
the Parks and Recreation Department 2013/14 operating budget.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the
documents necessary to effectuate the intent of this resolution on behalf of the City Council.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by
the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 23r day of
April, 2014 by the following vote:
