HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 50-2014RESOLUTION NO. 50 -2014 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE A COST SHARING AGREEMENT WITH THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO FOR A NEW ANIMAL CARE SHELTER WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco is one of 20 agencies contracting with the County of San Mateo (County) for animal control and sheltering services provided by the Peninsula Humane Society (PHS); and WHEREAS, shelter services are provided at a PHS facility located at 12 Airport Boulevard in San Mateo, where the building is owned by PHS on County -owned property; and WHEREAS, the building is functionally obsolete and must be replaced; and WHEREAS, the County is willing to manage construction and advance necessary funding for a new shelter to be owned by the County; and WHEREAS, the estimated construction cost of the shelter facility will be between $15.1 million to $20.2 million of which the City of South San Francisco agrees to pay a portion through a 30 year, interest -free lease. The annual lease payment will be based on the City's proportionate use of shelter services and current population; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute the Agreement on behalf of the City of South San Francisco, subject to approval as to form by the City Attorney.
