CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF $3,100
IN DONATIONS TO SUPPORT THE LIBRARY'S SUMMER
LEARNING CHALLENGE; ALLOCATING $2,000 IN
DONATIONS TO SUPPORT THE READER LEADER
PROGRAM; AND AMENDING THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT'S
2013 -2014 OPERATING BUDGET
WHEREAS, the annual Summer Reading Challenge program was established to encourage
children and teens to read during the school break; and
WHEREAS, the City has received various donations to support its annual Summer Reading
Challenge; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding in the amount of $50 from
South San Francisco Host Lions Club, $300 from Elks Club of South San Francisco, $500 from First
National Bank of Northern California, $500 from the Rotary Club of South San Francisco, $500
from Soroptimist International of North San Mateo County, $500 from the South San Francisco
Scavenger Company, and $750 from the South San Francisco Friends of the Library to fund the
Summer Reading Challenge; and
WHEREAS, the Reader Leader program provides tutoring for elementary school children by
teens; and
WHEREAS, the staff recommends allocating $2,000 in previously received general library
donations to support the Summer Reader Leader Program; and
WHEREAS, the aforementioned donations will be used to amend this year's Library
Department operating budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts a total of $3,100 in grant funding to support the
Summer Reading Challenge from the following donors: $50 from South San Francisco Host Lions
Club, $300 from Elks Club of South San Francisco, $500 from First National Bank of Northern
California, $500 from the Rotary Club of South San Francisco, $500 from Soroptimist International
of North San Mateo County, $500 from the South San Francisco Scavenger Company, and $750
from the South San Francisco Friends of the Library.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that
the City Council hereby allocates $2,000 from previously received donations to support the Reader
Leader program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that
the City Council hereby amends the Library Department's 2013 -2014 Operating Budget in order to
reflect an increase of $5,100.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 11th day of June,
2014 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Mark N. Addiego, Pradeep Gupta, and Liza Normandy
Vice Mayor Richard A. Garbarino and Ma oryl Matsumoto
