HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1920-08-30 Regularly adjourned meetimg of the ~o~rd of Trustees of the City of Mouth San Francisc held Monday August the 3oth., 1920, at Zlo Linden Ave. The meetin~ w~ cs,.led to order by C.~.~olston, President of the Board, at 9.50 P.~. 'ROLL CALL '- ~ Roll mall found all Trustees present, to-wit;-- F.A.Ounningham, A.J.Eschelbach, L;G.Hardy Jr, H.Scampini, G.~.Holston. Absent, Trustees , None. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with, owing to the laten~ of the hour. A delegation of citizens from the Women's Club and several churches , headed b~ Judge E.E.Cunningham appeared before the Board to protest against gambling in the community. Judge Cunningham explained that it was the desire of his constituents to work in conjunct~ with the Board of Trustees to the end that an ordinance be passed prohibiting back rooms in any Poolroom or other public place where gambling might be carried on unseen, and further that frox doors of such places should be of glass so ss to permit a full view from the street of all occupants of the places. , The Chamber of commerce also was represented at the meeting. Some of the members fevore~ licensing all soft drink places, and poolrooms, claiming it gave police Jurisdiction over such places and would abate any nuisance, such as gambling, therein. After considerable discussion it was decided that the various bodies appoint a committee to confer with City attorney Coleberd and secure date with a view to framing an ordinance strong enough to eradicate the alleged evil. On motion of ~rustee Eschelbach, seconded by Trustee Scampini the Board adjourned to meet again Tuesday September the 7th 1920, at 310 Linden Ave. Time of adjournment 10.35 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Daniel McSweeney, City Clerk and ex-officio clerk of the Board of Trustees
