The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of ~he City of South San Francisco was held Monday evening, January ?th,1924, in the City Hall. In the absence of the President of the Board, G.W.Holston, Trustee F.A.Cunningham acted as President Pro Tem and called the meeting to order at ?;30 o'clock p.m. ROLL CALL. Roll call found the following Trustees present, to-wit;- Trustees, F.A.Cunningham,A.J.Eschelbach,J.W.Pitt and H.Scampini. Absent,Trustee G.W.Holston. The minutes of the ~revious meeting were read and'upon motion by Trustee Eschelbach, seconded by Trustee Pitt and regularly carried were approved as read. A communication was received from the firemen, addressed to the Fire Marshal, asking one Sunday a month off for members of the fire department. Communication referred back to the Fire Marshal for investigation. A communication from M.B.Koop stated that he had agrsed to sell his pool hall,228 Grand Avenue, to Charles ~enconi,pending transfer of the pool room license by the Board of Trustees. Communication ordered filed. An announcement was received from the League of California Municipalities, stating that the dues in the organization had been raised from $30 to $40 per annum. Ordered filed. An application for a soldier's free license to peddle fruit and potatoes in. this city was received from Milton J.Brady. Referred to the City A~torney for advice. The Metal & Thermit Corporation wrote the Board complaining that the new sidewalk on the south side of Swift Avenue, in ~the vicinity of their plant is not up to specifications ~nd cannot be used in rainy weather. Referred to the City Engineer for investigation. A petition was received from the Crystal Socia~ Club, asking permission to hold an initial dance in Fraternal Hall, Saturday evening, January 19th,1924, the same ~o continue until 2 A.M. Permission granted. A communication was received from the General Construction Company, enclosing a check for $26 for ~6 days use of the city's water w~gon. Being satisfactory to the Board the check was ordered accepted. A check in the amount of $117 was received from City Engineer George A.Kneese, reimbursing the city for the printing and advertising c6st on the Swift Avenue Sidewalk job. Accepted, City Engineer Eneese, having been instructed to investigate the claims of thirty- three protestants against paying a charge for the clearing of weeds, reported that the claims of twenty-seven of the number were fair, and ~dvised the Board to return the amount collected. The Board so advised the City Clerk. Trustee Scampini,having visited Peninsula Park, in the western section of the city, in answer to the petition of the peoole there for a system of lights reported that lights were badly needed, and recommended that the Board order seven lights to be placed at points designated by him in a sketch of the district. The Clerk ws~ ~.nstructed to conmuunicate with the Pacific Gas & Electric Company and order the lights placed as recommended. Applicationsfor pool room licenses were received from L~attle & Duffy,Charles ~enconi, Angelo Genovesi,and ~.Galli, and granted by the following vote;- Ayes, Trustees, F.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelbach,J.W.Pitt,H.Scampini. Noes,Trustees, None. Absent, Trustees, G.W.Holston. Applications for soft drink licenses were received from E.Ghilardi,R.Da S. L~artino, A.Bertolucci, Louis B~rtoli, A.Ferrari,F.Bronchini, Angelo Genovesi, Richard E.Setter, H.Yglesios, E.Galli,Henry 2campini, A.~arani, Casimir Christen, and granted by the following vote,- Ayes, Trustees, F.A.Cunningham, A.J.Eschelbamh,J.W.Pitt, H.Scampini. Noes, Trustees, None. Absent, Trustees,G,.W.Holston. The a~plication of Tesus Cervantes £or a soft drink license for the location $10 Grand Avenue was rejected on the advice of the City ~arshal by the following vote,- Ayes, Trustees, F.A.Cunningham,A.J.Eschelbach, J.W.Pitt, H.Scampini. Noes, Trustees, None. Absent, Trustees, G.W.Holston. The reports of the Fire Chief, City Recorder, Building Inspector, City Treasurer, Health Officer, City ~arsh~l ~nd City Clerk, for the month ending December 31st,192~, were next '~ read. The report of the City Recorder showed collections of $1~7 for the month, while the report of the City Clerk showed the following balances in the various funds;-General fund,$25,591.28,Library fund,~2~22.85,Sinking Fund for sewers,~2821.10,Factory District sewer £und, $469.82, 1919 Bonds, $7459.29,Anti-tubercular fund, $114.46, Wee~ fund collections retmrned to general fund,$786.gl, Street Improvement fund, $33.00, Revolving ~und, $100.00, Street Funds, Ser. "A",$106.69,SerA"B" · "G" $~0 59 Set. $~2.27,Ser. "C",$146.S1,Ser. "D" $1012.76,Ser. "E",$10.90, Ser. "F",$419.09, Ser, , . , "H",$1825.zg,Ser. "I~",$8.58,Ser."~",$45.76. Total balance in all funds,S42,480.64. On motion of Trustee £s~helbach seconded by Trustee Pitt the reports were accepted as read. The motion was seconded by Trustee Scamnini and regularly carried.
