The regular meeting of the Board of trustees of the ~ity of South San Francisco was held in the City Hall On ~ionday, June 16th,1924. The meeting w~s ca~led to order at 7;ZO o'clock p.~. by Trustee H.F.McEel]is,President 'of the board. ROLL CALL. Roil call fom~d all trustees present, to-wit;- Trustees, C~rl Blank,F.A.Cunningham,L.J.Eschelb~ch,l!.McCaffrey,~nd H.,,~.Mc~ellis. The minutes of th,,~ pre~ious meeting were read and there being no errors or omis.~ions were approved as read/. A comnunication wes received from l,Lanuel Borba requesting information regarding the letting of the street sweeping contract for the next year. The board decided that the mctter would be given attention at a future meeting. A letter was received from the A.J.Eane Detective Agency, enclosing a claim for ~58~.~ services stated to have been rendered in 192Z. 0n the advi~e of the City Lttorney the letter and cl~ were ordered filed pending decision as to the v~idity of similar claims from the s~o company. The Fontina Food Products acknowledged receipt of the city's letter requezting the~ to repai the damaged ssnitary ~ewer belonging to the city, which their con~p~ny h~d partially de~troyed, ststi they would attend ~o ~ame as soon as they could get the co-operation of tt~e city Engineer. A prelimimary opinion on the recent $58,000 bond issue was received from Ooodfe3~ow, ~el~, i,loore &Orrick, stating that in their judgment the is~'ue showed lawful authority. Accepted and ordere filed. The i~arket Street ~ailway Co~pany sub~i~ted ~ st~teraen~ showing the gros~ recei~)ts of the oou~h San Francisco Railroad and Power Company ending -Apri121st,1924,to be t30,871.Zg,and the pezcentcge due the city on their franchise pri~i!ege to be %~617.4~, and asking approval of the ~t~temont. 0n motion regularly c~rried the st~te~ent was ~pproved and the cl~rk instructed to notif~ the company to that effect. A petition was receive~ from the ~ociety Operaia Di Mutuo Soccorso asking permission to ho~d a dance and carniw:l in Fraterncl Hall. Saturdsy evening July 19th ~nd 2~day Ju~y 20th,1924. A petition si~ned by a nur:~bcr of residents end property owners was received asking that acti be taken to place all service poles in the alleys and rec~uire the l~,~arket Street Railway co~v~pany to install ornamental ~ron trolly poles.Lfter discussion the ~atter ~v~s 3. aid over to co~e to ~p at future meeting. ~esponding to t~Le city's requo~'t for bids on the nunicip~l bonds of ~58,O00 recently voted the Citizen's National B~nk o~' South San Francisco submitted a bid of par, plus the s~ of ~50.00 premiu~ orovide8 that their bank attorney passes upon the ~e~l~ty of the issue. Bid accepted by re~olution. Superintendent of streets Xnoese was instructed by the Board to encourage as far as possible the e~plo~ent of labor fron ~outh San Francisco on the sewer construction. The City Clerk stated that the cfi'ice would be ready for the auditors on or about July 1st. The President of the Board stated he would ~ecure the ~ervicos of thc auditor with the con~ent of th bosrd.No objection~~. Zresident ~icNe~.~is stated that the m~tter of the.appointment od ~n additional policeman to fill a v~cancy would be considered, and requested the City Llarshal to suggest his selection. l,iarshal Be~loni suggested the appointment of Joseph Sildhauer. The selection being satisf~ctor; Joseph Bildhauer was regularly appointed as policeman. The subject of insurance on ~he fire truck w~s next taken up. A committee consistin? of City Trustee Cunningham and Fire chief Lruax was s~?pointed to ~ook into the matter of rates. RE£OLUTION AWARDING Trustee t~cOaffrey introduced a resolution awarding the Citizens National Bank of South San Francisco the ~58,000 ~ewer bonds voted Decenber Zrd,192Z, on its bid of par, plus ~50 premimm. The resolution was ~assed and adopted by %he ~ote of all the members of the Board and record in Book of Resolutions,~ol ~, at ~age lO~ Trustee Cunningham introd.~ced a re~olution awarding the contract for the construction of the first unit of the 192Z sewer system to W:J.Tobin.
