The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of Zhe City of South San Francisco was held in the City H~ll Monday evening, October 5th,1925. The meeting was called to order st 7;50 o'clock p.m. by Trustee H.F.~cNelli. s, President of the board, ROLL CALL. Roll found ail trustees pre~ent,to-wit;- Trustees Blank,Cunningham,Eschelbach,McCaffrey, EcNellis. The minutes of the previous were read and there belong no errors or omissions were approved as read. A communication was received from A.Veroni asking the board to ins?ect his plumbing at his residence 5!? Linden Avenue, claiming it to be in an unsa,nitary condition. Referred to the Health Officer. A communication ws~s received from J.P.Shaw of '~he local land company, stating that he had been requested by Harvey ~!.Toy of the Nayy Day Com~:ittee of San Francisco to ask the co-operation of the City of South San Francisco in observinM Navy Day, October 2?tn. The board decided to issue a proclamation calling the ,citizens attention to the observance of the day. Joseph Bildhauer asked for a three months leave of absence on account of i.llness. Leave granted, On motion by trustee McCaf£rey seconded by trustee Blank Floyd ~enzie was appointed to take the place of officer Bildhauer, commencing October 5th,192~. Floyd Menzie was sworn in as city police o£ficer. Application was made by E.l~.Boyle i'or permission to construct a gar~:.ge on the south west corner of lot $3, block 84. the same to cost $80.00 Permission granted. A comr~unication was received from A.C.Eleemeyer, stating that L[iss Mildred Hall had been appointed a ~chool nurse and Social ~f;elfare Nurse, and asked that the city pay half her salary or' ~62.50 per month on account of services to be rendered to the city as welfare nurse. On motion by Trustee McCsffrey seconded by Trustee Cunningha~ and regularly carried the request was granted and the clerk in~'tructed to place the nurse on the pay roll. A petition was received from the South San Francisco Land and Improvement Company reque~sting the city to vacate Commercial Avenue from Linden Avenue to Sa~~, Bruno Road and Cypress ~',.venue from'- the South line of the alley in block 141 to Com~.~ercial Avenue. Referred to the Street Co:::~,~ittee for investigation. The appointment of V~arren [hnerick as city firenan was confirmed by the board, the salary~ beginuing Septen~ber llth,1925. Major Skaggs,division engineer of the State Highwa$ Con, mission appemred before the board with reference to the under?ass on the Bay Sho~e Highway and and the elimination of grade crossings between South San Francisco and San Bru~.o. The da. ts :for the hearing is set for October 20th,19£5. C.B.Hodgkin, editor of The Journal, representi~g the ~[erchants Association advocated a~ increase o£ license on outside laundries and a license on cleaners and dyers operating in this city. Taken under advisement, "eports were received i'rom Fire Chief Trua:,:,the city's rep~'esentazive at Seattle at the Fire Chief's convention, Trustee Eschelb~ch, Dr.J.C.I',icGover~;, C~lerk McSweeney, and City attorney Davis who at-~ended the League of California Municipalites Convention at ~ong Beach. All rev~orted having learned considerable new data at the different conventions. Reports accepted. An application for a soft drink license was received from Oliver Cortesi. 206 Grand Avenue. ~icense granted. This being the date set for t, he opening of bids for the inprovement of Braden Avenue Trustee Cunningham ~_~oved that the bids be opened. The motion w, as seconded by Trustee Bl'auk and regularly carried. The following bids were then opened;- H. F. The W.F.Hanrahan Company appearing the lowest bidder Trustee Cunningham introduced the Resolution of Award, which was awarded to Hanr~ban Co., The Award w~s duly and regularly adopted/~e Board of Trustees, unanimously, Recorded in Book of Resolutions, Vol.2, at p~ge 69. The report of City Treasurer Kauffmann for the month ending August Slst, was read and adopted. The reports of the fire chief aud City Marshal for the month ending September SO, 1925 were also ~read and adopted. The following claims against the city were next presented; D. Mc~weeney B. M.
