The reguiar meeting of the city council of the ott~ of South San ~'ranctsco was held in the City Hall, MOnday evening, ~anuary 21st, 1929. The meeting was called to order at 7;30 o'clock p.m. by oounctlman A.~.Eschelbach. mayor of South San Francisco. ~oll Call. Holl call found all members of the city council present,to-wit;- , - Councilmen. A~ nYnding, ~?Lloyd, ~.~$nucctanl, E.Tlbbetts, A.~.Eschelbach. .The minutes of t~e two previous meetings were read. ~here appearing no errors or omissions Councilman Ttbbetts moved they be adopted as read. the motion was seconded by councilman minucciani a~ ~ ~ regularly carried. A refund of ~1.60 was requested by A~gelo monettint, ~or weeds clearing'charged against his ~ll, ~lock ~B, ~alley ~ark. ~eferred to inspector ~rawn. Silvio ~iancs made a request for a refund of $1.$4 charged for weed clearing in front of his lot ~ll,BlocX ~, nigh ochool Park. claiming to have cleared the ~eeds himself. Inspector Brawn 0.K'~ a refund in this ca~e. Soft D. ltcenses granted A.~cMill~,Millbrae Datry,H.Markham.P.Del Bianc~.~pool ~nense A.McMillan. Standard 0il Company made apRlicatton for a permit to erect a suitable b~ildtng for operation of a Super Units in connection with the gasoline filling station now in operation on the n~ west corner of Miller Avenue and San ~runo Road. Permit granted. ~ A petition signed by E1 property owners on Linden Avenue was presented to the council askin~ that action be taken to begin proceedings to widen Linden Avenue from Armour Avenue to Railroad Ave~ eight feet, by reducing the sidewalks on each side four feet, and t~e installation of a Boulevard sys of lighting. The'petition was sponsored by the Linden Avenue Improvement Association. The matter of ~ back lines for this district was brought to the attention of the Council by Councilman Lloyd, with th, result that a committee consisting of A.Hynding,Chatrman, J.C.Walker, W.J.Martin, A.P.$cott and D.J. Hyland was appointed to consider the petition and the advisibility of establishing lines set back li~ and report at the next meeting. The Cool Sprlng Filter Company, discontinuing servlce,m~de a proposition tO sell the filter formerly in the Fire Dapartment to the city for $11.00 or $14.00 on monthly payments. Not Accepted. A communication was received from the South City Aerie of Eagles,asking for a permit to hold dance in Fraternal Hall Saturday evenlng, January 26th,1929.. Perzit Granted. A petition was received from a number of property owners on Cypress Avenue, asking the city install lights thereon from Baden Avenue to California Avenue. A committee consisting of Rod Ttbbets~ Chairman, Reese Lloyd, A.Hyndtng and E.P.Kauffmann was appointed to investigate as to the number of 1 required, etc, and report to the council. The report of City E~rse reaa& acco Mr. Abbott appeared before the Council and stated a bad ~ole existed on the San Bruno Road northward from the Meehan Gasoline Station, and was dangerous to li~e and property. For responsibtli~ in case of accident the Council instructed the clerk to acquaint the City Attorney of the facts in th~ case and request that an opinion be submitted at the next meeting of the City Council. -- Health Officer Thomas C.Doak reported to the council that anti-toxin was needed in the school~ for the children. On motion regularly carried he was authorized to expend the sum of $550 to $400 the coming year for that purpose. Tax refund claimed by the ~nton Stockyards was laid over for considerati ~ Commetlman Mlnucctani moved the salary of Gardener Queristma be raised $25.00 per month, the Assistant Gardener, Carlo RoStoni, $20.00 per month and the street truck driver Jas. McDonald $10.00 per month, commencing January 1st, 1929. The motion was seconded.b~ Councilman Tibbetts and regularly carried. The clerk was instructed to request the Metal & Thermtt to,pay the full. tax ~ adjustment woul made next Ass't. Engineer Klassen reported proceedings well under way for the lmprovemen~ of Swtf~ Avenue as agreed upon by the committee on investigation at an earller date. Lighting of the new Bayshore Boulevard was next given consideration. It was agreed by the Co~ that the City Clerk write to all property owners on the Boulevard from the north city ltmlts to the south city limits, requesting their opinion as to the class of lighting preferred. So ordered. Mayor Eschelbach stated the city had agreed to provide a temporsry rock roadway for the resid~ on Oak Avenue when proceedings to pave same had been abandoned. E ngineer Klassen stated good Mecadam is to be had a a fair flgu~e, and advocated its use on Oak Avenue. Councilman Tlbbetts was empowered' the council to have the improvement made. The city will furnlsh the rock and the property owners agre~ spread the same. The city clerk was instructed to request Mr. Carrol of the Austin-Western Road Machinery Cpmpa~ to meet the City Council and give a demonstartton of his machine sweeper on Friday, Jansary 25th at l, o'clock a.m. Councilman Hynding stated the city hall grounds and buildings shoul~ be provided with a system flood lights for evening occasions. He agred with other members of the council to consult with E~gfne, ~ewls De,an and the Pacific Gas & Electric with a view to obtaining estimates, etc. He stated the dial or the ~Ity Hall clock are being made by the W.P.Fuller Company. Mayor Eschelbach and Councilman Hynding reported they had made a survey of the San Francisco Playground System. through the courtesy of the city's experts . ~lss Randall and mr. Parks. Engineer Parks volunteered to lay out the South San Francisco Par~s, which are to be developed as soon as the city's financial condition will allow. Plans wlll be submitted at the next meeting of the council. Referring to the new proposed phone rates ~ayor Eschelbach suggested a straw vote be taken to obtain the opinion of phone users, and requested say op~ngler, ~ecretary of the Chamber of Commerce to mndertake the task by sending out questionaires. The secretary was agreeable, but stated he might require a little assistance from the city council. mr. Longwell, ouperintendent of the Millbrae Dairy appeared before the council on behalf of th, County Milk Inspector to secure the adoption of the county milk ordinance. Councilman Hynding stated 1 believed the City of South San Francisco should handle local inspection, and derive any revenue that might accrue. No further action was taken.
