HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 124-2014 RESOLUTION NO. 124-2014 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF$12,000 IN GRANT FUNDING FROM UNITED WAY OF THE BAY AREA TO SUPPORT THE VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AT PROJECT READ AND AT THE COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER AND AMENDING THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT'S 2014-2015 OPERATING BUDGET. WHEREAS,the City of South San Francisco("City")Library Department established Project Read and the Community Learning Center to assist adults and their families in reaching educational goals; and WHEREAS, the United Way of the Bay Area awarded a grant to the City in the amount of $12,000 to fund Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programming at Project Read and the Community Learning Center; and WHEREAS,VITA programming will assist up to 600 low-income community members in completing their tax returns; and WHEREAS,staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding in the amount of$12,000 from the United Way of the Bay Area to support the Project Read and Community Learning Center VITA programs; and WHEREAS,the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend this year's operating budget of the Library Department. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts$12,000 in grant funding from the United Way of the Bay Area and amends the Library Department's 2014-2015 Operating Budget in order to reflect an increase of$12,000. * * * * * I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 10th day of December, 2014 by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Pradeep Gupta, Karyl Matsumoto and Liza Normandy Vice Mayor Mark N.
