L The regular meeting of the city council of the~Cit~' of South San Francisco was held the city hall, ~onday evening, August Z, 194~. ~he meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock P.~. by ~ayor D.W.Ratto. ROLL CALL. Roll call found all members of the council present, as follows, Councilmen, V.Boido, George W.Holston, Reese Lloyd, M.Minucciani,D.W.Ratto.~ The minutes of the two'previous meetin~ were read. There being no errors or omissions they were approved as read. ~joon~unication was received from Harry A.Cavassa relative to.paying h~s license and letting She city should pay a matter of ,200 foratteng~auts he employed for .~ ~. the the school departme~t's'sum~er recreational activities some years ago. As no dates were given~and the n~ of no councilmen submitte~ who.might have made some suggestions regarding the transaction, th. city council decided to take no action to pay. ~r. Cavassa was a member of the school board a' the time, Le stated he would make arrangements to take care of ~is license permit. Fire Chief ~elte submitted for the ai0proval of the board the name of W~.Minucciani for the call forces of the 'Fire Department. Councilman Holst~on moved the appointment be confi The motion was seconded by. councilman ~inucciani and regularly carried. Andrew hynding,. Chairman of the Pla~.ning Commission of this city, submitted his resign as such,~nd tha~.ked the council for past favors and wished them success in future affairs. Councilm~n Lloyd moved the resignation be accepted with the thanks of the city coumcil.The motion was eeconded by councilman ~linucciani and regularly carried. Po~ndkeeper Arthur C.Johnson submitte~his resignation as poundkeeper, to.take effect Septembev 1,194~. The resignation was accepted but the effective date was set at August 1,19 An invitation from Mayor Bowron of Los Angeles City was received, inviting.the city officials of South San Francisco to attend the ~4th annual conference of the League of Califo Cities i~ that city September ~l to q4,1942. Communication ordered filed. A deed was received by the City of South San Francisco from the California Golf Club of San Fran~isco to a strip of land for the construction and maintenance of a drain upon, in and through ~ parcel of land six feet wide,adjacent to the southwesterly property line of E1 Ca~ Real for the construction of a storm water drain pipe. Councilman Eolston introduced a res olution 6f the City Council of the City of South San ~'rancisco accepting the deed. Councilman Boido announced t~at h$ would vot~ against any sale of city park land,or transfer of the same ,on the ground t~at. th~ city coul~ improve the ~ark for much less mon~a~ it could buy other park land. Cbuncilman Minucciani introduced a resolution of intention to abandon and distontinue park land~ ~.07~ acres of the ~artin School Park ~6~4 acres. During the discussion, over the resolutioh of intentiSn to abandon this piece of city land,Councilman Boido voicsd his opposi to it, sthting the property was close to the residents of Peck's Lots, Paradise ~alley,Trisht and vicin~ty.Ee stated the city could improve tl.liS park at little expense,givin~ all the re in the district recreational and childrens' playground facilities~ ~ayor hatto explained the se to grade and storm sewer the property would be too great,abou~/~VOOO,and the city could se more suitable property close by for less money. Mr. Otto Deitche,a resident of Paradise Valley spoko for his nei hborhood and said the residents were led to believe the i~artin School park was to be de~eloped for park and pla ground purpOses. Councilman holston'introduced a resolution of the City of South San Franci~ purchase a truck for the street department, bids to be opened August 1V,194~ at 8 P.~.in the Hall. City engineer Klassen reported he had'not yet got in conference with Commission~ in re securing financial assistance in re~a:ving sand from Colma Creek. On.the recommendation~ ROLL CALL. City engineer Klassen reported he had'not yet got in conference with Commissioner Bax in re securing financial assistance in reN~:~ving sand from Colma Creek. On.the recommendations the Hartford Fire Insurance Company to install safety measures the engineer reported some h~ attended to and others were bein;~ taken c~e of. On the proposition to extend west Grand AVe~ [814 the street car tracke city attorney Coleberd reported he was about to get in touch with the county manager in the matter, and would ask to have the county take deed to the reqL~ired property. The City Clerk was again instructed to write engineer ~arshall asking for the return of certain claims forwarded to him sometime ago for endorsement. Under the head of Coed &~ Welfare, Er. Otto Diestche of Paradise Valley inquired as to the status of the orooosed sidewalk On the north side of Hillside Boulevard,between Linden Avenue and Arden avenue.
