The reg~lar meeting of the city council of' the City of South San Francisco was held in the City Hall,i..onday evening, November o 194°' ~h.e meeting was called to order at :9 o'clock P.~,i. by i~fayor i~.' .Ratto. ROLL CALL. Roll call found all members of the city council present, as follows;- Councilmen,V.Boido,George W .Holston,t~eese Lloyd, I¥~.Minucciani,D.W.Ratto. ~he minutes of the two previous meetings were read· ~-~ere being no errors or omissions they were approved as read. A communication was received from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters ~ Joiners of A~erica calling the attention o~ the city council to the traffic condition at the ~ayshore Hi6hway and the entrance to the ~lair Shipyard,stating the same to be dangerous,and gettin?:' worse and asked the city to co-0?erate in controlling the situation. ~,~r. Deasy and ~ir. Dennis of the s~~' ~.~ard company appeared before the council and urged that the-city appoint some police to be stationed at the entrance to the yards at peak hours, twice a day for the present· Chief of police ~elloni Stated conditions there we-~.e bad,and something should be done by the city to !~.revent accidents. Councilman moido stated the city needs more police and believed two men should be appointed.All councilmen were in favor of increasing police protection with the cooperation of the shipyar6 companies. It was decided that the police department and police committee get together before %he next city co~ncil meeting and make ti e best arrangements they can. An a~'~swer was received from the i¥~otor ',~ehicle Department at Sacramento to the city's requesz to furnish a deputy' in South ban I~ancisco to issue vehicle licenses,stating!: i~,r. Carter was out of town and would take the matter up upon his return, Cor.~unication filed· 5ire Chief ~elte submitted the name of R.Colombo for appointment to the calll forces of the fire fepartu~ent. Councilman ['~[inucciani moved the appointment be confirmed. ~he motion was seconded by councilman Lloyd and regularly carried· ' A co=~munication from the California StaSe Council of Defense requested the city to aid in making known areas where unused housing facilities exist. ~eferred to Building Inspector Welte. ~orks Engineer Klassen sub,~itted an estimate of he first payment due L.C.Smith on his contract to clear Colma Creek Channel between Orange and Linden Ave~:ues. The amount stated was ;~6,975, after withl-olding o~5~ of the total amount. InspecZor Schlaam submitted a report that he was notified by Engineer White of San Bruno thaz the Sa~-~ ~ru~.o Tanforan sewer was broken in five places, that $,t~e city of San ~ruon and City of South San Francisco were jointly liable for its maintenance, and asked for immediate repairs. Engineer Klassen was instructed to attend to the matter. A co~munication from health Officer Chas g.~ans to Engineer Klassen stated ~he Tanforan Sewe. roolem was serious a~d had desi~!nated Chief Sanitar~~ Inspector l,~ickeisen to meet with him and ~iscuss the situation. Accepted and filed. Acknowledgment was received from merrett d Hilp of the city's letter signed by engineer Klassen 5ctober 19 ~ regarding sewage and tide flow in the vicinity of their shipyard, stating they would flmme- ~iatel~ look into the difficulties and ta:~-e steps necessary for thier correction. Co~.~nunication accepted and filed. . ~he South S. ?.Land ~ improve~.'~ont Company submitted a statement showing they had paid the Sity of South San ~¥ancisco the sum of ~34.°~5 for their share in the purchase of maps. Councilman !~olston s'ated he and ~r. ~oido were agreeable to two of the three names for the 'board su,~mitted by the mayor,an~ felt it was only fair that they should be entitled to name one member, and that when he o~'fered the na~es of Dolwig,Fourcans an~ ~illiams for the personnel board he asked the members of the council for an expression of opinion and iI, r. Ratto made no su~gestions or comments on the proposed names. i~ayor katto stated he was giving the minority members of the city council the same treatmen only, as he received when in the minority.
