CITY 0~ SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO,HELD EONDAY, FEBRUARY
19TH, 1945.
The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was held in the
City Hall, i~onday evening~~ February 19th,1945.
In the' .~bsence of"~ayor Geroge '~9.Holston, councilman l¥iinucciani moved that councilman Elder
be selected Mayor pro tem. 'lhe motion was ~econded b~ councilman hays and regularly carried~on roll
ca±l. Accordingly councilman Elder took the chair , opened the meeting and asked for the roll
call.
ROLL CALL.

Copies of the minutes of the meetings of Februar~~ 6th?and,8th, having been forwarded to
all members of the council, ~'~ayor pro tem Elder asked if any errors or omissions were noted.

~ ~e declared the minutes of both meetings adopted as submitted.
A reply was ~c~ived £rom the Board of Supervisors through County Clerk Augustus, to the
the city's letter requesting them to pass legislation to control the waters of Cblma Creek
to prevent hog affluent being washed down into the ~ity of South ~an Francisco. ihe letter
stated t~at steps had already been taken in an effort to solve the problem, and the matter
referred to the l~irector .of H~alth ~ Welfare and tl~e District Attorney's Office. Accepted.
~ A communication was received from the Chief of Police asking the council to cancel the
appointments of the following ~pecial Police;-
~'erruccio Corruccini, Lawrence ~¥alker, Herman R.Dittner,Edna Barbara~Atha/'~ar~ Harvey,
Lo~?~se Johnson, Larr~- Wooley,an,~ Evelyn Smith. Councilman ~inucciani moved the names be
cancelled as requested. ~lt,e motion was seconded by councilman ~oido and regularly carried.
A co~.munication was received from ~r. Henry Dostwick,stating that the two oSOCP pende~t ~
bracket street light units ordered for hillside ~oulevard,0etween Linden ~ Arden Avenues ~had
been znstalled,{~bru=ry 9,1~.~45, and that tie comoany was preparing their work orders covering
the installati'o~ of the two units on ~'!iller Avenue and the~2l u~its on ~ayshore highway.
Communication accepted and filed. ·
A communication was received I~rom the American Red Cross stating the solicitation and ,~
collection of ~ed Cross ~ar i~unds will ~ ~

City attorney Coleberd ruled the city could not donate city funds for that purpoee. The
City Clerk was instructed to write the ~ed Cross i~und to that effect.
A ststement was received from the ~ivision of highways stating that the amount due this
city from the ~ cent ~as tax allocations for the 19~-47 Oiennium, is t~e sum of ,~13,680.
r~eferred to the engineer's department.
C-re,~ory ~'ernandez applied for a business license to operate the Grand hotel,7$3 ~ayshore
~iighway. Laid ~ver until the police and health departments inspect ttJe premises. ~otice was
received ~rom tilde State ooa~d of Equalization of the application of Jregory ~ernandez for an
on aale Be~r license at the Grand hotel,73~ Bayshore highway. No actiom taken.
i~he monthly report of the city librarian for the month of O'anuary,l~45 w~s received and
accepted.

A large delegation of property owners and citizens .~ of Southwood appeared before the
city council and submitted a petition containing 1~6 names, protesting a~ainst the San ~[ateo
County Planning Commission granting the San ~iateo Sheriff's ~ounted Posse Club a permit to
construct stables in the vicinity of $outhwood .....

~an ~rancisco, protesting to the San ~ateo County Planning Commission against the issu~nce~of a permit
to San ~ateo ~ounted Sheriff's Posse Club to construct stables in the vicinity of Southwood, $ou~h
Sa~ Francisco. ~he resolution was adopted b~ the votes of all the members of the council present,
as follows;-

A sketch of pro!~osed lighting improvements was submitted to the council, commencing at
Grand Avenue and Orange Avenue, continuing throu?h We~.t Orange,westerly to E1 Camino ~eal. fhe
additional cost to the city was fi~jiured at ,i~la.6~?~ncilman Hays moved that the work be ordered
done. The mOtion was seconded by councilman Loido and regularly carried.

stated he would look in~o the legal aspect.
Concerning the application of l~[oss ~ Hess for a business licensee to store lumber on Parcel
6,Zone "D", it was reoorted_ t~e compan~ hes the lumber scattered in ~arious places, and refuse lumber
still on the hills in Peck's Lots. 'ihe city clerk was instructed to write ttem ordering the places
cleared up before any license can be

c~erk stated that b$otblacks, barbers,co~olers,beauty parlors and ~ other busi~ess~(oai~ licenses

Chief of Police oelloni reported the Bottsford Lum0er Company having refuse lumber scattered
around in various places in the ~utual Engineering Company's plant, without regard to syste~ or
location.Engineer ~arwwod stated that as they have a license not much can be dSne about it.
