The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was held in the city hall, konday evening, April o,, 1945. Rhe meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock P.L. by ~¥~ayor ~eorae W.>;:olston. Copies of tke minutes of the three pre~ious meetingshaving been sent to the various councilmen for their consideration, ~layor Eolston inquired if any one noticed any imregularities or omissions. ~.~a~.ll~g~:~ none, he declared'the minutes adopted as submitted. ~,ioticing r/any bidders in. the audience, },iayor Holston inquired if they wished to be beard. Chief of pol!ce Belloni submitted the names of ~'arrN William Haenkle,~arold Roy Eoxie, Arthur B.Walters and E.A.Auldridge, for aopointment ~o the call forces of the police department at the Western Pipe ~ Steel Company. Councilman Elder moved they be appointed, without remuner- ation from the c~ty. ~he motion was seconded by councilman ~]ays and regularly carried. A protest was received from RQr. Ed.K.I~eyer of 6V~ ~'!yrtle Avenue, Nayfair Village,. about the looseness of the dogs in the vicinitR of his residence, and the city at large, e stated he had invested the sum of .i~6500 in his residence, and surrounding oroooerty, and wished to know if he could have the property attended to, and if not, he would use the courts of county to have the cases attended to. ~r. Boido spoke of the ~nfair way the matter has been attended to, and wished to have the ~og ordinance changed to suit the new residence owners. The matter was referred to the reference co~i~te~. A.Azaro was gnat, teed permissio~ to move a cabin from ~anPoran to ~1 Cypress Avenue. in the matter of the South ~an Francisco Sign Company, the South San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, through~ its secretary ~r. S.K.Robbins, answered the city's con~muni'cation on the subjec~ by stating that they unanimously objected to the sign's continuance at the present site. A communication was received from t~.e Acme ~rewing Company, acknowledging the receipt of aity's letter of ~arch ~0, addressed to them at San Francisco, in answer to various letters on the subject of their continuance of the sign issue. A communication was received from ~r. Phil ~attaneo,~49 Grand Avenue,asking permission to make some alterations in his premises, ~4~ Grand Avenue. ~ermission granted. A communication was received from ~]r. ~oward Oreenwalt,minister, by the board of city councilmen, objecting to the continuance of the sign on the hill above the city, stating that a great~.man~ of the citizens object to the sign as now displayed. The~matter will be threshed out when the board comes together again. ~he monthly reports of the poundmaster, fire chief, police chief,building inspector,city judge,and the city clerk for the month ending ~arch Z1,1945, were submitted~ and accepted. A communication was received from ~'irs. Elizabeth Ottenfield,~ecretary of the Personnal 2oard of this city, stating that there were vacancies of three radio Qperators in thee police deoart~ent, one clerk in the civilian defense, two laborers in t~e street department on a monthly salary, .~ laborerslin the street and park departments on daily wage, and one full time and two part time employees in the library, and suggested that as the temporary appointment period elapsed in the above cases, would, they kindly instruct the Personnel Ooard to call for examinatio~ £or such positions as are 'required.
