HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1945-06-18REGULAR ~ETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SODTE SAN FRANCI~C0 HELD MONDAY, JUNE 18, 1945. A regula~ meeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was held in the city hall Monday evening June 18, 194B. The meeting was called to order at 8:00 o'clock p. m. by Mayor Geo. W. Holston. Roll call found the following memebers of the city council present as follows: Councilmen Victor Boido, M. Minucciani~ George W. Holston, Charles K. Elder Absent, Councilmen~ Ivan M. Hays The city clerk having furnished copies of the minutes of the previous meeting to all the members of the city council, Mayor Holston asked if there were any errors or omissions. There being none he declared the minutes adopted as submitted. A communication was received from Peter Sorenson asking for an extension of two weeks or until July 1st to complete the ouhfall sewer job. On motion of Councilman Elder seconded by Councilman Boido and ~egularly carried this request was granted with the provision that that portion of the sewer which would serve the Smporary Federal Hous- ing'Project No. Cal.-4083-N be completed by June 21, 1945. A letter bearing the names of some sixty residents of Paradise Valley protesting to loCation'of the contemplated street south of Hillside Boulevard was received, asking that this street make this junction coincide with Claremont Avenue, also asking that notice be given the p~otestants regarding any action. Mr; Robertson appeared before the board on behalf of the residents of Paradise Valley. After discussion the matter was referred to the Planning Commission. The clerk was instructed to turn the correspondence over to the planning Comission. communication was received from Gordon Rowe Company~in regarding current audit- ng and police court records, recommending changes in the general accounting system and in Municipal Court record procedure. On motion by Councilman Minucciani second- ed by Councilman Boido and regularly carried Gordon Rowe Company was authorized to proceed with the changes outlined for the Police Court records. A notice~from the State Board of Equalization of the c~ange in ownership of the Off Sale license of Ferrari and Finger'to June Bunyard was received. Notice order- ed filed. Louis Belloni submitted the names of Eben Robertson and John Locatelli for appoint- ment as special police at the Western Pipe and Steel Co. On motion by Councilman Elder seconded by Councilman Minuccianl and regularly carried t~e~ appointments were confiEned, said mere to serve without renume rat ion from the city of South San Fran- cisco. A communication was received from Mayor Holston recommending the re-appointment of Miss Rue R. Clifford and Mrs. E. I. Bartlett to the Library Board. On motion by Councilman Elder seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried the recom~nend- ation was oonfirmed. Mr~ Calesto Belli, 350 Baden Avenue made a request for a refund of $56.67 a~ount paid for business license for his apartments from July 1934 to March 1940. CounciS~nan Elder made a motion that all apartments house owners who paid anything but the current year be refunded. Mr. Coleberd suggested that specific names be mentioned. The Clerk was instructed to make a list of those who paid the back license. Councilman Elder withdrew his motion. Acommunication was received from Frank Bertucelli asking for a six months leave of absence from his duties as Police Officer, a clearance from the city council from his duties and pexw-~sS2on to commence his vacation on' June 19th. On motion by Councilman Boido Seconded by Counilman Minucciani and regularly carried the request for 6 months leave of absence was denied. RESOLUTION NO. 1009 Councilman Minucciani introduced a resolution of the city council o$ the city of South San Francisco awarding the contract for ~ne purchase of a Chevrolet 6 cylinder dump truck to Santo Pascuzzi. The ~olution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Victor Boido, M. Mtnucciani, George W. Holston Charles K. Elder - noes, Councilmen, Neme- Absent, Councilmen Ivan M. Under unfinished business Mark Larwood reported the engineer's office had a man to s~art, the survey of the condition of sidewalks and streets in the city; also he is ~roceeding to get bids for the ~enewing of the names on the street curbs. Mark Larwood that it would cost about $250.00 put an oil ground and l~ inch asphalt on the Linden Avenue playground. On motion by Councilman Elder seconded by Council- man Minucciani and regularly carried the engineer's office was authorized to pro- ceed with the work. The matter of the dance permit of Mrs. Natalina Schiorcchi, Grand Hotel, was laid over. City Attoz-ney Coleberd reported that he was not ready with the garbage o~dinance. Mayor Holston asked Mr, Coleberd what progress was being made with the proeeedings to improve the alley between Baden and Commercial west of Orange Avenue. Mr. Coleberd said plans and specifications were ready, but due to the fact that many of the owners di~ not sign up for the work it entailed Absent, Councilmen~ Ivan M. Mr. Coleberd said plans and specifications were ready, but due to the fact that many · of the owners did not sign up for ~he work it entailed much more legal work before proceeding, but that he would have this ready as quickly as possible. The motion was Seconded by Councilman Minucciani and regularly carried. Mayor Holston brought up the matter of damage to city equipment and the fact that no reportof such accidents is brought before the city council. Councilman Elder moved that written reports be submitted t~e city council of any damage to city equipment. The motion was seconded by Councilman Minucciani and regularly carried. Mel Schl~mm reported he was not ready with a report on the Tanfo~an Hotel owing to the Fire Chief being away on vacation. Mr. Coleberd advised t~at he has a paper ready for Building Inspector Welts to serve on the owners. Councilman Minucciani reported he attended the meeting of San Mateo County Planning Commission with ~egard to t~e proposed Veteran's Memorial building and that the committee would have a report for the next meeting of the city council. A representative of the Women's Club of Southw~ood appeared before the meeting of t~e council regarding the condition of ~the ~c~ildren's bus station in Southwood. Councilman Elder suggested~sne write the School Board about it inasmuch as the school has charge of the bus. There being no further business before the board Councilman Minucciani moved to adjourn to Wednesday evening, June 2~, 1945, at 7:30 o'clock p.m. The motion was seconded by Councilman Elder and regularly carried.
