The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco was held Monday, evening, November 19,1945, in the City Hall. The meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock P.M. By ~yor George W.Holston. ROLL CALL. Roll call found a;1 members of the council present,as follows;- Councilmen,G.A.Anderson, Victor Boido,Charles K.Elder,Ge~>rge W.Holston.M.kinucclani. Copies of the previous meetings having been forwarded to aS1 members , Mayor Holston asked if an~ one had noticed any errors or omissions. The city clerk reported having been corrected by the Sity Attorney as to.~ the correct name of the firm of lsweyrs engaged by the city at a previous meet~ng to be "Orrick,Brown,Herrington,Dahlquist and Neff",the city clerk acted accordingly and made t~e correctios. The minutes were then accepted as corrected by Mayor Holston. Notice was received from the State Board of Equalization of the transfer from Paul Ccnstantino of of the Steel. Bowl of his ON SALE BEER license to Thornton Howell. There were no objections by the City Council. By request of Mt.Ed Kauffmann the subject or taking the property from Grand Avenue to Baden Avenue,in block 146,together with Parcels 38,39 and 43,out of Fire Zone No.1, was taken up. The City Clerk was instructed to inform him the matter would be taken care of in the very near future. A ~communication was received from. the South San Francisco Personnel ooard,stating they had sub- mitted the final rating of Dante Lombardi,advising that he had been placed on the eligible list, that he is on the city pay roll and that his appointment has not been confirmed as a probationer by the City Council. They stated they would like to have t~e matter cleared up. City attorney Coleberd was consulted,after which it was stated Mr. Lombardi was still on the civil service dd:St,and he would ~e appointed in due time. ~ayor Holston stated that Officer McGraw would be retired on Dec.l,1945,and would hear a motion to that effect. Accordingly councilman ~inucciani moved that Officer McGraw's retirement take effect on December 1,1~45. The motion was seconded by councilman Elder and regularly carried. Don. S.Mathews was granted permission to open a radio Center Service at 31V Linden Avenue. Joseph J.hearne submitted a proposition to sell his lots, Nos.lO and ll, in Block 135,on Linden avenue to the cit)' for the sum of $V.500. The offer was taken under consideration. A communication was received from the Oank of America asking if the city wished to continue the"Stop Payment" on various loet city ckecks. The city council decided to hold the stop payment on, and tLe City Clerk was instructed to so inform the bank. The monthly zeport of the Librarian for the month of October was submitted by Miss Haussar, and accepted. Chief of Police Belloni submitted the following names of extra police for cancellation by the' City Council,-Fred W.Murray,Otto Joanassen.Western Pipe,-Psn-American Airway Guards,Geoffrey M.Black, Joesph Lecari, Mrs. ~attie Salter.~Ernest ~ernoff Lnderson~Donald ~ilsborough,Miss Genevieve Peterson,Edward Otto Fisher and Ruth Alameda Carter. Councilman Elder moved the cancellations be made. The motion was seconded by councilman Minucciani and regularly carried. Chief of Police Belloni submitted the names of ~e.P.Thomas and Linwood B.Blair for guards at the Western PIPE & Steel Co. Councilman Elder moved the2 be appointed,without remuneration ~rom the city council.The motion was seconded by councilman B&ido and regularly carried. Engineer's L~mited applied for permission to .4nstall one 550 gallon underground ~$®~a~e--pump and gasoline tank at their place of business, located at Spruce & Canal Streets,complying with all local rules and regulations. Councilman Minucciani moved the permit be granted. The motion was seconded by councilman Elder and re&ularly' carried. Two communications were received from the Division of Highways with reference to the Int~r-~ section of Nest Orange Ave. and E1 Camino Real. Both stated that the matter is under advisement,~, and will be taken care of in due course of time, probably a few weeks more. Communications accepted. A communication was received from Chas A.Freeman,owner of the United Packing Company,offezing to buy out Fire House No.$,as some of ~is property is covered b2 the city fire house. The city ordered~ the communication filed,until we hear further from Mr. Freeman. In a letter to the City of South San ~'rancisco from the League of California Cities,attention · was called to Disaster Preparedness. Heferred to City Attorney Coleberd. A communication and new law were received from the State Retirement System,asking if this city and its employees wish to take advantage of the new benefits and assessments. Referred to Atwi= R. Bra~m,Predident of t~e Employees organization of the city. An endorsement was received from American Homes Development Co, of the city's adoption of Resolution #984, on the ~O~h day of ~arch, 19*8, of t~e district known as Southwood No.3, South San Francisco,California. The Division of Highways submitte~ its First Supplemental Memorandum~f Agreement,in triplicate, to provide for the expenditure of the ~cent gas tax fund on State'Highways,\for the 19~-4V Biennium. Councilman Elder introduced a resolution of the city council o~ the City of South San Francisco,accepting the memorandum of agreement.
