PLACE: Ti~: ROLL CALL: CALL TO 0RDER: ~!INUTES: Council Chambers, City Hall, South San Francisco, Calif. 8:00 ~!clock P.M. Present, Councilmen G. W. Holston, Chas. K. Elder, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi. Mayor Leo Ferko called the meeting to order at 8:00 o'clock The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read. CORRESPONDENCE: Henry A. Wallace, National Chairman Emergency Food Collection, New York, telegraphed the Eayor requesting that he designate chairman to handle the Emergency Food Collection in the local co~unity. Mayor Ferko appointed ~r. Virgil ~. Ringue, ~ Baden Ave., as Chairman, and Er. Henry A. Wallace was so advised. Pacific Gas ~. Electric Co. addressed a co~r~unication to the Cit~ Council advising that street lights had been installed at Hillside Blvd. and Randolph Ave. and on the west side of ~ission Road ~0 ft. south of Grand Ave. Same was accepted and ordered filed. Paradise Valley Improvement Club addressed a communication to the City Council advising that a con~ittee of five members had been appointed to meet with the council and planning commission at a date set by the council. Mayor Ferko set the meeting date for Nay 18th, at 8:00 P.E., which was agreeable to Mr. Rocca, of the Planning Commission, and Mr. Trusty, of the Paradise Valley Improvement Club, who were both present. Paradise Valley Improvement Club addressed a communication tO the City Council recommending Mr. A. G. Lithgow as a member of the City Planning Commission. On motion duly made and regularly carried same was ordered filed for future reference. ~r. Harry H. Larson, Pastor of First Baptist Church, addressed a communi- cation to the city council requesting permission to move two buildings from Tanforan to property at Grand and Eagnolia Aves. On motion duly made and regularly carried permission was granted. United Veterans Memorial Day Committee addressed a communication to the City council inviting the council members to be present at ~emorial Day services to be held at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, on Nay ~0th, at ~:00 P.E. City clerk was instructed to advise the co~ittee that Eayor Ferko and as mmny of the council members as possible would be present. Peninsula Division, League of California Cities, addressed a communication to the City Council announcing Dinner ~eeting to be held at the Benjamin Franklin hotel, Thursday Nay 18th, 8~est speaker to be Richard Graves. The council members and other city officials stated they would attend, and city clerk was instructed to so advise the secretary. Norelos, Inc. requested permission to give a concert in the School Auditorim~. and a dance at the Fraternal Hall, Saturday, Sept. ~th, 19~. City clerk w~s instructed to ask them to submit letter for dance permit only. RAILING BIDS: Supt. of Streets, H. L. Schweining, submitted bids ~or the installing of railings for steps in the Grand Avenue Park, as follows: Kelly's Welding Shop ,~lVV5.00 installed Anchor Post Fence Co. 41550. material ~90. install. 1940.00 installed Creative 14etals Co. approx. ,~60 ft. at ~o~.o~5 material only, ,!$810.00 delivered. ~r. Schweining recommended that the bid of Creative Metals be accepted and the Street D.:,.pt. do the installing. On motion of council- man Sani seconded by councilman Holston and regularSy carried the bid of-Creative Metals Co. was accepted. City of South San Francisco Employees Assn. addressed a communication to the city council asking for a general increase in salaries of 15%. On motion of councilman Elder seconded by councilman Saui same was referred to the Personal Board with a request that the board study the salary schedules. FIRE SITE: ~r. Loren S. Bush, Chief Engineer of Board of Fire Underwriters addressed a communication to the city council stating a survey had been made of the various sites~.available for a new headquarters fire station. Two selections were made~s follows: Choice No% i Baden and Cypress Aves. P. R. Blythe addressed a communication to the city council stating he would like to connect to the main sewer on Linden Ave.; also attaching a letter from F. Calegari stating he wished to install plumbing. City Engineer E. L~rwood recor~ended that sewer system be installed on South Linden Ave., also on Railroad Ave. west of the South City Lumber Co. On motion of councilman Elder seconded by councilman Holston an~ regular- ly carried City Engineer was instructed to prepare estimates for install- ing sewer system in these two areas. Huntington 88.V5/~ William Fox, Jr. 8~.4~ On motion of councilman Elder seconded by councilman Cortesi and regularly carried Wm. Fox, Jr. was~appointed as a regular fireman and John B. Huntington as a probation- ary fireman. Personnel Board addressed a communication to the city council certifying Virgil Mallei for appointment as a police officer. On motion of councilman Sani seconded by council- man Cortesi and regularly carried Virgil Maffei was appoint- ed as a police officer for the probationary period. L0~LBARDI, Police Officer STREET DEPT. Appointments Personnel Board addressed a communication, to the city council stating that William Ridenour had received a final rating of 8~.~% in his examination for police officer, but his certific~tion was held up pending w~F~ ~ his discharge ~rom:the~Armed Service. On motion of councilman Saui seconded by councilman Elder and regularly carried communication was accepted and filed for future reference. Chief o~ Police Belloni addressed a communication to the city council advising that Dante Lombardi had served his six months probationary period as a p~lice officer April ~0, 1940 and was to be employed as a regular officer Fay 1st. On motion by councilman Sani and seconded by council- man Elder and regularly carried Dante Lombardi was placed on regular police officer duty at a salary of ~i~oo~.8~. Chief of Police Belloni appointed John A. Bosin as a special officer April ~8, 1946. On motion duly made and res~larly carried the appointment of John A. Bosin as a special police officer,without remuneration from the city, was confirmed. Supt. of Streets Schweining addressed a com~unication to the city council rec~m~ending~the following men for temp- orary appointment to the Street Dept.at a salary of ~1~.60 per month: Dave Corsiglia Dave Ghiorsi On motion of councilman Cortesi seconded by councilman Elder and regularly carried Corsiglia and Ghiorsi were appointed to the street department. REPORTS: Reports of the City Clerk, Police Dept., Fire Dept., Building Inspector, City Judge, City Treasurer, Dept. of Public ~ealth, and Poundkeeper For the month of April were submitted and approved as read. C LAI~iS: Claims in the amount of ~8975.41 were next presented to the finance committee for approval. On motion duly made and regmlarly carried the claims were ordered paid. P. R. Blythe submitted a new plan for subdivision in Pecks heights. On motion duly made and regularly carried same was referred to the Planning Commission for recommendation. ORDINANCE NO.R46 Amending Zoning Ordinance No.I~V: Ordinance No. ~46 of the City of South San Francisco, amending zoning ordinance No. i~V and repealing Ordinance No. llV, had its second and final reading. The Ordinance was passed by the unanimous vote of all members of the city council. Recorded in Volume ~, Book of Ordinances, Page ~45. RESOLUTION ~1101 Rezoning Lot 5 Block Councilman Sani introduce~ aResolution of the CitF of South San Francisco referring to the City Planning Commission a certain ares of land for the purposes of rezoning. The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council. Recorded in Volume 4 of Resolutions at Pa?'e '73~ RESOLUTION .~110~ Deed J.A. and Hazel E.Johansen: ELECtRIC~$ CODE: Councilman Holston introduced s Resolution of the City of South San ['rancisco accepting deed from J. A. and Hazel E. Johansen conveying to the city certain property for street purposes. The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of s].l members of the city council. Diederichsen, Business Rep. of Electrical Workers Nnion Local No.6, addressed the city council asking that the city adopt the San Mateo County electrical code which would make all electrical work in the county uniform. Building Inspector Welte recommended the adoption of same together with the Plumbing Code and 1946 Building Code. On motion duly made and regularly carried City Attorney was asked to prepare necessary ordinance to adopt the Electrical, Plumbing and Building Codes. LOLBARDI , Police Officer STREET DEPT.
