Holston, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani,Emilio Cortesi Absent: Councilman Chas. K. Elder Mayor Leo Ferko called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. The minutes of the meetings of May ~4t~ and ~ay ~Sth were approved as read. CORRESPONDENCE: TRAFFIC CONFERENCE SA~RA~, I0: The Italian Catholic Federation addressed a communication to he city council asking permission to hold a dance at the~Fraternal Hall, Saturday, July ~Vth, from 9:00 p.m. to l:00 a.m., with the sale of beer to stop at l~ mid- nigh~... 0n.~etian of councilman Sani, seconded by councilman Cortesi, and regularly 'carried, permission was granted. Telegram was received from Governor Earl Warren with reference to traffic safety conference in Sacra~<ento June Vth. Councilman Ssni and Chief of Police Belloni stated they would attend. Jos. A. Pless, Supt. of Recreation, addressed a communication to the city council reconm~ending certain improvements at Orange Ave. Playground. On motion of councilman Eolston, seconded by councilman Ssni, and regularly carried, same was referred to the Supt. of Streets with power to act. GORDON R0;,,E AUDIT: LEAGUE ~ET!NG SAN DIEGO: A communication was received from the Belle Air I~provement Club, San Bruno, askin~ the coun~l to help retain Cape Esperance and Hamaja Village for rentals for war veterans. Councilman Sani moved that ~e council go on record as favoring these projects for Veterans and that the Belle Air Im- provement Club be so advised. ~i~otion was seconde~ by councilman Holston and was regularly carried. Gordon Rowe Co. addressed a communication to the city council advising that they would prepare yearly budget report for the fiscal year ending June ~0th, 1946 for the ~.m of ~5.00. Councilman Holston moved, seconded i by councilman Sani, that the offer be accepted to prepare the report at a figure not to exceed last years payment. ~iotion was regularly carried. FRO~[ Communication' was received~/League of California Cities advising of an Annual Conference of the ~ea~e to be held in San Diego, September 16-19, with information concerning hotels to be forwarded later. Same was held over for further discussion. VIRGIL ~[AFFEI: Communication was received from Chief Of Police Belloni advising that Virgil Eaffei commenced six months probationary period as a Police Officer June 1st. 0n' motion duly made and regularly carried same was accepted and filed. Communication was received from Supt. of Streets Schweining recommending the temporary appointment of J. J. Previti to the Park Dept. ss a laborer. On motion duly made and regularly carried Previti was appointed to the Park Dept. tempOrarily. REPORTS: Reports of the' City Clerk, Police Dept., Fire Dept., Building. Inspector, City Judge, D~ of Fealth and ~oundkeeper for the month of May were submitted an_d~.b~roved as read. ~LAIES: Claims in the amount of :~4999.4V were next presented to the finance committee for approval. On motion duly made and regularly carried the claims were ordered paid. ORDINANCE .#q47: Amending Ordinance l~V: Ordinance No. 047, amending zoning Ordinance No. I~V, was brought up for the second reading. On motion of councilman Holston, seconded by council- man Sani, and regularly carried, reading of the ordinance was dispensed with. The ordinance was passed by the unanimous vote of the council members present. Recorded in Volume ~, Book of Ordinances, Page ~46. RESOLUTION ~lll0;Councilman Sani introduced a resolution of the city of South San Francisco accepting deed from Roy ~. Burnley and Betty Burnley conveying to the city sn easement for the construction of storm sewers on certain property situate in Section west of Railroad of the Town of Baden. The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of the council members present. Recorded in Volume 4 of Book of Resolutions at PaLc '84. RESOLUTION ~llll: Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution of the City of South San Fran- Awarding cisco awarding contract for doing the work as described in Resolution of Contract on Intention No. 1095 to William D. Smith, A. J. Bragato and E. Barbettini. Rancho Burl- The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the Burl work: council present. Recorded in Volume 4 of Book of Resolutions, Pa?e RETURN OF BONDS: Councilman ~olston moved, seconded by councilman Cortesi, that the bonds d~p0Sited by the various contractors.be returned to the unsuccessful bidders. ~otion was regularly carried. PROTEST ON Protest of property owners against buildings at Grand and Eagnolia F~ves. BUILDING~AT~ ~ _ ~ was now brought up. Mr. Harry Ii. Larson, Pastor of the First Baptist Church GRAND & MA~,h0L.~Aexplained his intentions in regard to these buildings. Ee stated that when the buildings were ready for occupancy they would present a much different appearance. The front would be stucco and the buildings would be joined with the present church. ~r. Chief of Police Belloni stated he had installed slow signs in this area but it would be impossible to place.~a police officer there due to the lack of help. RESOLUTION ~lll~:~Councilman Eolston introduced a resolution of the Cit~ of South San ~ran- DEED TO LOT 1 cisco~accepting deed from J. A~ Johansen and hazel E. Jo~ansen conveying to EL~ COURT the city Lot 1, Elm Court, South San ~rancisco, for the sumof ~1~80.00. The ~resolution was adopted by the unanimous ~ote of all members of the cit~ council present.
