Present: Councilmen Geo. W. Holston, Chas. K. Elder, Leo Ferko,
Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi
Mayor Leo Ferko calle~ ~ meet.~ng to order at 8:00 p.m.
The City ..Clerk having forwarded co~y of the minutes of the previous
meeting'to ail members of~he city council, Mayor Ferko asked if any
errors or omissions were noted. There being none the minutes were
approved as submitted.
6orrespondence$
The Planning Commission addressed a communication to the city council
recommending that certain lots in Buri-Burt Tract be rezoned for busines
Councilman Elder moved, seconded by councilman Holston, that the Plannin
Commission recommendstion be accepted and the necessary steps be taken
for the rezoning. Motion was regularly carried.
BUILDING
PERMITS:
Mr. Harold M. Strom submitted request for alterations to building at 59
E1 Camino Highway at an approximate cost of $200.00. As the Building
Inspector stated same would meet all restrictions Councilman Sani made a
motion that request be granted. Councilman Cortesi seconded the motion
and same was regularly carried.
Charles H. Jones, of J0nes'y Billiard, submitted application for a build
lng permit to erect a lean-to at 24~ Grand Ave., costing about $150.00.
Fire Chief Welte stated same would meet the fire restrictions, therefore
Councilman Sani moved, seconded by councilman Holston, that the permit b
granted. Motion was regularly carried.
Aldo DeTomasi and John A. Ratto submitted a request to build a service
station at Grand Ave. and Old Mission Road. On motion dul~made and re-
gularly carried this request was submitted to the Planning ~ommission.
DANCE
PERMIT:
Communication was received from the 12 M Club ask~g permission to hold
dance at Fraternal Hall Aug. ~rd, from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. On m~tton
of councilman Cortesi, seconded by ouncilman Saui, and regularly carried
permit was granted subject to the pa2ment of the license fee.
Communication was received from the South San Francisco Call Firemen
requesting permission to hold a Halloween Dance at Fraternal Hall. On
motion duly made, seconded and carried, permission was granted.
RENT CONTROL:~
Communication was received from Local Union No.1069 United Steelworkers
of America expressing desire to meet with the council to discuss rent
c~ontrol. City Clerk was instructed to advise them that the council
wo~ld take no action, with the exception of receiving complaints, until
Congress or the Governor had taken some action.
RIDENOUR
APPOINTMENT:
Communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni advising that
William Lester Ridenour had commenced probationary period on the police
force July 1, 1946. Appointment was approved.
PARKING
METERS:
Communication was received from the South San Francisco Chamber of
Commerce advising that the use of parking meters was unanimously approve.
at their meeting of June 20th; also recommending that steps be taken to
eliminate parking difficulties in the b~siness area. On motion of
councilman Holston, seconded by councilman Elder, and regularly carried
the matter was referred to the Planning Commission.
Jos. A. Pless, Supt. of Recreation Commission, addressed a communication
to Mayor Ferko stating the National Recreation Assn. suggested that all
cities honor Joseph Lee by proclaiming July 22 - 2~th as Joseph Lee Week
and July ~6th as Joseph Lee Day. On motion duly made, seconded and
carried Mayor Ferko proclaimed July 26th as Joseph Lee Day and July 22
to 27th aa~~ Joseph Lee Week.
Communication was received from the City of San Bruno advising that San
Bruno is planning the extension and widening of Herman Ave. and asked th~
cooperation of South San Francisco by taking similar action in regard to
Dollar Ave. This matter was referred to ~e Works Engineer.
LEAGUE DI Nh~R
MEETING:
Communication was received from Peninsula Division of League of Californ
Cities advising of meeting at Los Gatos, Thursday. July 2§th. The main
topic would be Sewage Treatment and ~isposal. Ail council members and
most city officers stated they would attend.
REP 0RTS:
Reports f~ the month of June were received from the Dept. of Health,
Treasurer and Poundkeeper. Same were approved as read.
CLAIMS:
Claims in the amount of $6245.?6 were presented to the finance committee
for approvaX. On motion duly mmde, seconded and regularly carried the
claims were ordered paid.
RESOLUTION ~1129: Councilman Sani
OPTION ON
FIRE SITE:
introduced a resolution of the City of South San Fran-
cisco agreeing,to option for the purchase from Gertrude E. Skrable and
Burmah Skrable~bertain lots or parcels of land for $5250.00, optiom to
be exercised not later than Oct. 15th, 1946, and that $500.00 be paid on
receipt of such option. The resolution wasadopted by the unanimous vote
of all members of the city council. Recorded in Book of Resolutions,
Volume 4, at Page 99.

IMPROVEMENT WORK:
The Mayor asked if there were any protests against the improvement work
to be done in Brentwood No. 2 as described in Resolution of Intention
No. 1117. As there were none Councilman Elder introduced a resolution
of the City of South San Francisco ordering the work to be done. The
resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the city
council. Recorded inBook of Resolutions, Volume 4, at Page 99~100.
BUILDING
ORDINANCE:
City Attorney stated ,:.if he were supplied with copies of the Building,
Plumbing and Electrical Codes he would proceed with Ordinance. Build-
ing Inspector Welte said he would supply same.
Mr. Barrett, of Southwood, ~tated rubbish was being deposited in newly
painted barrels so that the Street Dept. could pick same up and asked
that the barrels be returnede The Supt. of Streets Was instructed to
see that this was done.
Mrs. Hernanwished to know if something could be done toward repairing
the tennis court grounds. She was advised that there was no money
available at present to take care of this expenditure.
Mayor Ferko asked the Recreation Commission to appoint two of its
members to look into the matter of obtaining priority for material
for the Recreation.buildings. Mrs. $1e0ecker stated she would bring
this before the Commission.

On motion of councilman Elder, seconded by councilman Sani, and
regularly carried, the City Council adjourned to Monday, August 5th,
1946, at 8:00 o'clock p.m.
