HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1947-03-03REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HELD MONDAY, MARCH 3, 19&7 PLACE: TIME: CALL TO ORDER: ROLL CALLs MINUTES: Council Chambers, City Hall 8:00 o'clock p.m. Counc//m~ Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Sani that Councilman Holston act as Mayor owing to the absence of Mayor Ferko. Motion was regularly carried. Councilman Holston called the meetingto order.at 8:10 p.m. Present: Councilmen G. W. Holston, Chas. K. Elder, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi Absent: Mayor Leo Ferko The City Clerk havip~ forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting to all members of the City Council, Acting Mayor Holston asked if any errors or omissions were noted. There being none, the minutes were approved as submitted. SONTO CRISTO SOCIETY: Communication was received from the Sonto Cristo Society requesting permission to hold celebration April 26th and 27th .at the Fraternal Hall. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried ,permission was granted. GUY F. ATKINSON: Guy F. Atkinson submitted request for permit for excavating and transporting material in the City of South San Francisco. Bond in the amount of $500.00 was attached. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that permit be granted. The Women's Society for Christian Service of the Millbrae Community Church requested permission to hold rummage sale in the American Legion Hall March 26th and 27th. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried, permission was granted. PETROCCHI BUILD~ lNG: Charles P. Petrocchi requested permission to erect building on E1 Camino and 2_nd Street. As the Building Inspector advised this would meet with all requirements of. the Building Code, motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that permit be granted. SOUTH LINDEN AVE: Petition signed by P. R. Blythe, Eagle Oil & Refining Co., Inc. and Fortunato Calegari was submitted, requesting that no work be done on South Linden Ave. without first advising them of same. Communication was ordered filed. MAPLE AVE.BUILDING RECREATION COMM: Communication was received from the Recreation Commission recommending that the RecreatiQ Center Building on Maple Avenue be retained on a month to month basis as the lease had expired March 1st. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried, recommenda~- tion of the Recreation Commission was accepted. Communication was received from the Recreation Commission acknowledging the City Council's appointment of members to fill vacancies on the Commission. Also, expressing appreciation for the loyal services of Mrs. Ethel ~unroe, Communication was ordered filed. ORANGE AVENUE SIDEWALKS: Works Engineer Estes presented plans, specifications and estimate for balance of Orange Avenue sidewalks. Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Sani that the proper steps be taken to let out bids for improvement of sidewalks on Orange Avenue. Motion was regularly carried. DALY SUB-DIVISION: Communication was received from the City Planning Commission recommending the approval of map of Daly subdivision. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that recommendation of the P~anning Commission be accepted. BURI BURI NO. 2 SEWER: Communication was received from the City Planning Commission recommending the approval of drawings of proposed sewer in Buri Buri No. 2,subject to the approval of the Works Engineer. As the Works Engineer stated he had seen and approved these drawings, motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted. SOUTHWOOD COMMEFgIAL:Ccmmunication was received from the City Planning Commission advising that they wc~ld not approve map of business section of Southwood as submitted without various changes. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted and Mr. Williams be advised of same. Attorney Antonio J. Gaudio submitted new map of Avalon Subdivision. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that same be referred to the Planning Commission and Works Engineer for further study. MONTHLY REPORTS: CLAIMS: Fire Chief Welte submitted~the name of Lawrence Dini for appointment to the call forces of the Fire Dept. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that Lawrence Dini be appointed to the call forces of the Fire Department. Chief of Police Belloni submitted for approval appointment of Harvey Ralph Armstrong as guard at the Belair Yard. Motion was duly made, sece~ded and regularly carried that the appointment of Mr. Armstrong be confirmed without re~atiOn:~ ~rom the City. Reports for the month of February~esubmitted by the Building Inspector, Department of Public Health and Welfare, Fire Chief,and the Poundkeeper. Same were approved as submitted. Claims in the amount of $8821.89 were presented to'the Finance Committee for approval. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried the claims were ordered paid. Boosters Club requested permission to use Council Chambers March llth for open meet- ing with Hahn Campbell Assoc., Planning Engineers. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that permission be granted. RESOLUTION #1193: Counci~nan Cortesi introduced resolution calling for sealed proposals for furnishing pipe for Orange Avenue Park. ' Resolution was adopted by the 'unanimous vote of all members presented. Mayor Ferko arrived.at 8:&O p.m. and ~tingMa~or Holston turned the meeting over to him. M~. Mazzanti of Second Lane addressed the Council requesting information as to when Seco~ Lame would be impreved. He was informed that bids for this work would be opened March 17t~. ~ COUNTRY CLUB PARK: Various property owners of Country Club Park were present at the Council meeting and reque~sted information as to how they would benefit by annexation to the City. City Attorney Coleberd explained the benefits that would be derived from the annexation. After a lengthy discussion it was suggested by the Mayor that the Works Engineer and the City Assessor compile figures showing appro~mmte sewer assessment and tax rate for. this area in the event of annexation. P~ANNING C~MMIS~ION:Mayo~ Ferko appointed the following men as members of the Planning Commission. A. Rocca - 1 year Ed Barrett - 2 years J. Bracco - 2 years R. ~.anetti - 3 years F. Lautze .- 2 years J. Estes - Ex-Officio Member ADJOURNMENT: On motion daly made, seconded and regularly carried these appointments were confirmed. City Clerk was instructed to notify retiri~ng members, commending them for their work.
