Councilmen G. W. Holston, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi Abseflt: Councilmen Chas. K. Elder Mayor Ferko call'S, the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. The City Clerk having fQrwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting to all members of the City COuncil, Mayor Ferko asked if any errors or omissions were noted. Councilman Cortesi stated he had gone. on record as voting "no" on the recommendation of the Planning Commission with reference to Avalon Park and the minutes should read that way. Motion was duly made seconded and regularly carried that the minutes be corrected acgordingly, and approved as corrected. The American ~rble Co., represented by Mr. Edwards, asked permission for Healy Tibbitts Construction Co. to blast on their property. Councilman Sani moved, seconded, by Council- man Holston that permission be granted Healy& Tibbitts Construction Co.-to blast at the American Marble Co. proper~y, South San Francisco, upon condi~ion they get consent of the insurance company to cover specified b~asting operation. Motion was reEularly carried. Councilman Elder arrived 4t 2:25 p.m. The Manufacturers Association addressed a letter to Mayor Ferko enclosing copy of letter sent to the Southern Pacific Co. with reference $o Grand Ave. Underpass. This letter stated all checks received by the Association from certain industries to defray cost of'Grand Ave. Underpass had been returned for cancellation. In the Association letter to the Southern Pacific Company they stated that when this matter comes up again it ~tll be up to the City Council to make the solicitations directly to the industries and handle individually on that ~asis. City Attorney Coleberd suggested that a confer- ence be held between the City Council, State Highway Commission, Manufacturers Association and Southern Pacific Co. Mayor Ferko stated: he expected to hear from Assemblyman Dolwig this week regarding the States position on the Underpass and that he would contact Mr. Rooney of the ~anufacturers Association and arrange a meeting. Motion was.duly made, seconded and carried that ch~ck for $750.00 be sent Armour & Co. covering return of their deposit.toward the Underpass. Taxes were due on the property to be purchased for the proposed new Fire Building and as the city held~$ption on same motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried t~a~ the city pay the taxes on the property~ Application of Mrs. G. Guisto to move house from San Francisco to South San Francisco, laid over from last meeting, was taken up. As the house was already moved to Chestnut Ave. motion was duly made, seconded and carried that permit be granted on payment of a double fee. Clyde D. Wizener, Built Right Cabinet Shop, sub~dtted an application for business license to conduct cabinet making and repair shop at 126 South Linden Ave. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that perEit be granted. Councilman Elder introduced a resolution amending the Personnel Rules and Regulations pertaining to Policemen. The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members. City Attorney was asked to prepare necessary papers changing Civil Service Rules providing that firemen and policemen have five years experience in their respective departments before being eligible to take examination for promotion. An ordinance amending Ordinance No. 150 establishing regulations for the accumulation, collection and removal of garbagea was introduced and had its first reading. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the words "dumping of such" be stricken out and the word "of" changed to "on" in the last paragraph of section 14a of this ordinance. City Attorney Coleberd stated Mr. Moneypenny, representing an insurance company, had ~called on him with reference to Fireman Pete Mairani's tnJur~and offere~ to pay the City $1500.00 covering salary paid Mairani. After some discussion it was suggested that Fire Chief Welte give this matter his attention. The matter was then laid over until next meeting. Councilman Cortesi brought up the question of whether it would be advisable to have an auto court adjacent to a school, referring to the property held by Mr. '~neeler on E1 Camtno Real near Orange Ave. After some discussion the matter was laid over. Works Engineer Estes returned plans of street work in Burl Buri No. 2 with recommend- ations for various changes. Motion was duly made, seconded end carried that the plans BE referred to the Buri Buri people with request that the changes noted be made. High School Park Terrace Map No. 2 was submitted for approval. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that this map be approved. . Works Engineer submitted plans and specifications and estimate of $2300 for improvement of Orange Ave. basketball courts. City Attorney was asked to prepare resolution for bid~s~ HOG RANCHES: ADJOU~T~'~' Chief of Police Belloni stated he understood permits were to be issued by the county allowing hog ranches at the north end of the city. Councilman Holston moved, seconded by Councilman Cortesi, that a letter be written to the Board of Supervisors strongly protesting the issuing of licenses to hermit hog ranches in the First Townships'. The motion was regularly carried. On motion duly made, seconded and carried the meetin~ adjourned to April 7, 19~7 at 8:00 p.m.- Time of adjournment 5:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, APPROVED: Mayor City Clerk
