APPROVED: ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HELD FRIDAY, JULY 25, 19&7 Council Chambers, City..Hall ~:30 o'clock p.m. Present: Councilmen G. W. Holston, 6has.' K. Elder, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani. Absent: Councilman Emilio Cortesi. Meeting was 'called to order at &:30 p.m. Reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with. Mayor Ferko asked if there were any written or oral protests against the rezoning of Lots 72 and 73 in South City Village. Th%re were none. An ordinahce amending Ordinance No. 137 by adding sections 5C, rezoning lots 72 and 73 South City Village, had its first reading. Councilman Cortesi arrived at ~:~5 p.m. Councilman Elder mOVed, seconded by Councilman Cortest that Bond Election to raise funds for Fire, Police and Recreation Buildings be set for Tuesday, September 16, 19~7. Motion was regularly carried. Councilman Sani moved, seconded by Councilman Elder that the City Clerk ask for applications for election officers for the coming bond election. The motion was regularly carried. Mayor Ferko received a letter from Governor Earl Warren with reference to rent control. Same was read at the geeting and asked that the Mayor appoint a committee to consider all cases covering rent ~uestions. The Mayor stated he would give this study and appoint a committee at a later date. Communication £rom Superintendent of Streets Schweining recommending the acceptance of the bssketball courts, which was held up from the meeting of July 21st, was taken up. As Recreation Superintendent Pless recommended the acceptance of the basket- ball courts, motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried, that the basket- ball courts be accepted. Communication was received from the San Mateo County Fair Association requesting per~ mission to install Fiest~ Street Banners at Linden and Grand Aves. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried, that permission be granted providing liability insurance was supplied covering any damage that might arise from these banners, and that banners be put up so that same will not fall down. As the League of California Cities convention would be held in San Francisco September 22nd to 25th, City Clerk was instructed to have one large room reserved as a meeting place during this convention. Councilman Cortesi stated the Housing Authority in Lindenville would pay $25 per month for the cleaning of the streets in that area. He stated it would require about four days to clean the streets at th~ start and then twice a month thereafter. This matter was left in the hands of the Street Superintendent. Councilman Sani suggested that somebhing be done to correct the sewer stoppage near the Shop Towel Service Co. Councilman Cortesi moved, seconded by Councilman Sani, that the City Clerk write the Shop Towel Service'Co. asking that they cease deposit- ing any foreign matter in,the sewer that could not be taken care of by the sewer. Motion was regularly carried. It was regularly moved, seconded and carried, that the Works Engineer be authorized to take the necessary steps to provide for a special census at an early date. Cbuncilman Elder asked permission to leave the state for a period of theee weeks on and after August 2nd. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried, that Council- man Elder be granted permission to leave the state for a period of thirty days on and after August 2nd. It was brought to the attention of the Council that dwellings were being constructed in thm Avalon Park Subdi~isionl The Building Inspector was asked to check into this matter and report. A number of the Co6ncilmen drove'through High School Park Terrace and found the roads very..nar~ow. As this was a condition that should be corrected the Mayor stated he would contact the Works Enginee~ and have him check the matter thoroughly.
