K. Elder, r ~O Ferko, and Adolph Sani. Absent: Councilmen G. W. Holston. and F~,tlio Cortesi CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Mayor Leo Ferko. . .(of the City Counci~ The minutes of the meetings of Aug. ?, 11, 12, 18 & 25th were approved as per copies submitted to all member~ CONTRACT AWARD The bid of California Constructors, Inc. and Webber.& McOann, submitted at the ~URI Bt~/ ~2 meetimg of August l~tk, being the loWest bid Councilman Sani introduced a resolution RESOLUTION ~1256: awarding contract for the improvement work in Burl Buri ~2, as described in resoluti¢ of intention ~1233, to these people. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the city council present. , ~ONDS -UNSUOOESSFUL BIDDERS: SOUTHWOOD TRACT: Motion was duly made, seconded and regglarly carried, that bonds be returned to the unsuccessful bidders on improvement work Communication was received from the Division of HighWaYs requesting that the city council_ ,defer acceptance of Southw~od Commercial Tract map until such time as they h& an opportunity to' review the map, and also that map be forwarded to the Division of Highways. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that this matter be referred to the Works Engineer. Letter received from the City Planning Commission, with reference to this matter, was filed without reading. SERVICE STATI0~ GRAND & OAK AVES.: Cemmunication was received frem the ~lanning Cemmtssion advising against the granting of permission for service station at Grand & Oak Aves. and suggested that a certain area in this district be set aside for commercial purposes provided the Council saw fit to 'grant a permit for a gasoline station.. On motion duly made, .seconded and regularly carried this matter was laid over until all members of the council were present. MOSQUITO ABATEMENT: Petition to annex certain territory to Mosquito Abatement District was presented. As Health Inspector Schlamn advised there were still more petitions to be heard from this matter was laid over for further consideration. CITY PARK IMPROVEMENT CLUB: BUR/ BUCCI CROSSING: Ccemunication was received from City Park Improvement C~ub with reference to installin a traffic light at the intersection of E1 Camino Real and the entrance to Brentwood. As this matter had been taken up with.the state at an earlier date, City Clerk i.- ' ~as.' instructed to so advise the City Park Improvement Club. Division of HighwaYs addres~d a letter to the Works Engineer advising arrangements had been made to paint the crossing on E1 Camino Real near the entrance to Buri Buri Subdivision as Soon as the paint crew is in the area. City Clerk was instructed to advise the Buri Buri Improvement ~lub accordingly. Chief of Police Belloni recommended that application for poolroom at 213 Grand Avenue 'be denied Frances Shotwell. Motion was duly made,, seconded and regularly carried that the recommendation of Chief of Police be accepted and application fee p~olroom at 213 Grand Avenue be denied. STO~ AND SANITARY SURVEY: Communication was received from the Norks Engineer advising that storm aret sanitary sewer survey had been 60% cOmpleted, at a cost of $2200'and that it would require 30 additional days to complete the survey at a cost of $2000 more. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried, that the Works Enginee~ be authorized to complete the survey. A~UST TER~AGNO INJU~Y: Communication was received from Chief of Police Betloni advisim~ that Sergeant August Terragno had been absent from his duties since August 23rd due to injuries while in line of duty. This e~mmunication ma~ ordered filed. FIVE CATS DANCE: State Board of Equalization advised that on sale general license had been issued to Dominic Rossi & Rose Palmer, 935 Bayshore Blvd. Request for permission to hold a dance August ~th was received from L. D. Avelar. Same was ordered filed. [ ~EST ORANGE AVENUE SIDEWALKS: ~OLLIER-BURNS HIG~AY ACT: MONTHLY REPORTS: CLAIMS: PAPJCING DISTRICT PETITION: TRAILER ORDINANCE: SOL rION TAX RATE 19~7-&8: PROTEST - WEST ORANGE AVENUE RESOLOTION ~1258: TRAILER CAMP~~ BARRETT DIVISION ALLIED CH~ICALS: ADJOURNMENT: Communication was received from Superintendent of Streets 5chweining recommending the acceptance of Mayfair' #3. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that the recommendation, of Superintendent of Streets Schweining be accepted and Mayfair #3 be accepted. Communication was received. from ~uperintendent of Streets Schweining recommending the acceptance of sidewalk~improvements on West Orange Avenue. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that this work be accepted as recommended by the Superintendent of Streets. Communication was receiwed from.the Department of Public Works, Sacramento, with refer- ence to major city streets as provided by the Collier-Burns Highway Act of 19&7. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that this matter be referred to the Plannir~ Commission, Chief of Police, and Hahn Campbell, Associates. Reports for the month of August were submitted by the Fire Chief, Building InspeCtor, Department of Public Health and Welfare, and Poundkeeper. Motion was duly made, seconde~ and carried that same be approved as submitted. Claims in the amount of $~510.0& were submitted to the Finance Committee for' approval. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried the claims as submitted were ordered paid. Petition for the formation of a vehicle parking district containing signatures of numerous property owners, was submitted. It was duly moved, seconded and ~agularly carried that same be held over until all members of the city council were present. An ordinance ame~ing ordinamee ~229 entitled: "An ordinance regulating the use of trailers or camp cars in the City of South San Francisco", adopted on the 19th day. of July, 19~3, was introduced and read for the first time. Councilman Elder introduced a resolution fixing the tax rate for the fiscal year 19~?-h8. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the city council present. Mayor Ferko asked if there were any protests against the improvement of West Orange Ave~ A representative of Guy F. Atkinson Co. addressed the council ~king if any changem !~had been made in the Works Engineer' s estimate of this Job. He was advised that none been. As there were no other ~uestions or protests on this matter, Counci!men Sani introduced a resolution ordering the improvement work on ~est Orange Avenue. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the city council present. Councilman Sani stated.he had checked into the matter of trailer camp at the ~uy F. Atkinson Co. and found that?permission had been given them in March, 19~4; also thab~ he and Health Inspector Schlamm had visited the Atkinson Co. property and found their trailer camp complied with all rules and regulations. A representative of the Barrett Division of the Allied Chemical Co. addressed the council again complaining of drainage eondition on the company's property. He was advised that the City would do all possible to contral drainage; in this area. On motion of Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Sara and regularly carried the meeting,was adjourned to Monday, ~eptember 15, 19~7 at 8.'00 p.m. Time of adjournment - 9:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, City Clerk
