Present: Councilmen G. W. Holston, Chas. K. Elder, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani, Emilio
Cortesi.
Meeting was called to order by Mayor F~gko at 8:00 p.m.
The City Clerk having forwarded copies of the tw$ previous meetings to all members
of the City Council, Mayor Ferko asked if any ommissions or errors were noted. There
being none the minutes were' approved as su~kitted.
Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Holston and regularly carried that bids
for the improvement of Brentwood No. 3 be opened. The following bids were submitted:

Fay Improvement Co. 287,912.32
L. C. Smith being the lowest bidder Councilman Holston introduced a resolution awarding
contract for the improvemeht of Brentwood No. 3 to L. C. Smith. The resolution was
adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council. A motion was duly'
made, seconded and regularly carried that bonds be returned to the unsuccessful bidders.
Henry L. Schweining, Superintendent of Streets, submitted a report on Burl Buri
Su~division No. I as to condition of ~treets, street lighting, mone~e the city, etc.,
stating conditions shall be corrected before street improvement ~erk~is~Ae~epted.
A communication was receivedffrom Burl Buri Homes, !nc. in answer to Superintendent of
Streets Schweining'm charges. The letter was referred to Works Engineer 1Estesffor a
report to the council in order to meet with the B~ri Buri Company.
A communication was received from Evelyn Collins asking ~or an additional six months
sick leave~ Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Cortesi and duly carried
that the request be granted.
A copy of a letter to The Enterprise from J. C. Cherry, asked that correction be made as
to the price offered Buri Burl Co. for the school site. O~red filed.

A communication was received from Pan American World Airways commending the Fire
Chief and his force on the highly efficient manner in which .they handled the fire at ¥
its plant.~ The letter was referred to the Fire Chief.
A communication was received from Division of-Highways relative to re-subdivision of
Southwood Commercial Tract. The same was referred to'the City Attorney and Works
Engineer. A copy of same was to be sent G. W. Williams.
A communication was received from the Recreation Commission recommending that the
Recreation Building be built on the Cigic Center rather thanon the Elm Courtsite .
After discussion it was decided to meet with the Recreation Commission on Tuesday
evening October 28, 1947.
· John J. Orcutt addressed a Communication to the City Council tendering his resignation
as a regular fireman of the city and asking that he be accepted as a volunteer fire-
man. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried his resi~nation was accepted
and his request that he be 'accepted as a volunteer was granted.
A copy of a letter from the DivisiOn of Highways to the Paradie~ Valley Improvement
Club regarding the painting of a white line at the Junction 6f Hillside Blvd. and
Chestnut Avenue was read. S~me was ordered filed.
A communication was received from City and County of San Francisco' advising that~e
matter of sewage treatment for Mills Field had been referred to proper authorities
~or investigation and report. Same was ordered filed.
A letter was received from Congressman Jack Z. Anderson enclosing a telegram from
Mr. Clarkson of War Assets stating application of City for transfer of BelAir site
was being presented to the Property Review Board. Same was ordered filed.
A petition containing '169 names, to annex certain territory to Mosquito Abatement
District was presented. The matter was laid over until more names were presented.
An application was received from Frank Lovoi applying for the position of Superin-
tendent of Playground Directors. The same was referred to the Recreation Commission.
A communication was received from City of San Mateo asking a representative to be
present at a meeting to be held in San Mateo October 22, 1947, with regard to curb-'~
ing speeding on Bayshore Highway. No action was taken.
A resolution passed by the City of San Bruno approving assessment district for improve-
mentaf Dollar, Tanforan and Huntington Avenue East in the City of South San Fran-
cisco, was read.
Councilman Sani introduced a resolution of the City of South San Francisco declaring
its intention to improve Dollar, Tanforan and Huntington Avenue East. This resol-

ution was adopted by the una~ous vote of all members of the City ouncml.
A communication was received from the City Park Improvement Club asking the City
Council to install a public address system in the Council Chambers. The clerk was
instructed to advise the Club the matter would receive consideration.
A communication was received from the Southern Pacific Co. advising that instructions
would again be issued to eliminate the noise caused from switching operations on Rail-
road Avenue. Same was ordered filed.
The report for the month of September was submitted by the Library. Motion was duly
made, seconded and carried, that report be accepted.
The business ~icense,,of Frances Shotwell' received the O.K. of Chief of Police Belloni
to engag~ in Sandwich Shop and Shoe Shine Parlor. On motion of Councilman Holston,
seconded by Councilman Elder and regularly carried the application was granted subject
to the approval of the Health Department. '
On motion of Councilman Holston, sec6nd~d by Councilman Elder and regularly carried
"Ordinance regulating use of Trailers or Cam45 ~ars" introduced September 2, 1947,
was set'aside.
An ordinence a~ending Ordinance No. 229 entitled: ~An ordinance regulating the use
of trailers or camp cars intthe City of SOuth San F~ancisco", adopted on the 19th day
of July lgA3, was introduced by Councilman Holsten~and read for the first time.
COuncilman Co,esi introduced a resolution for the installation of traffic stop signs
in the CitY. of South San Francisco~ 'This're~olution was adopted by the usanimous
vote of all members of the City Council.

· "An Ordinance Regdlating The Digging up and distu~bande of Roadways and S&dewalks
in the Public Streets, Lanes, Alleys and Public Places inthe City of ~outh San Fran-
cisco; Regulating the Refilling and Repair of Disturbed Streets and the Roadway
thereof; and Providing a Penalty for the Violation Thereof", adopted by the Board
of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco on the,~ Ath day of May, 191&, ~as
introduced by Councilman Cortesi and read for tGe first t~me.
An Ordinance entitled "An ordinance regulating excavation in sidewalks, public streets
lanes, alleys, ~1~ pmblic places in the City of South San FranciS6o; regulating the
refilling of excavat~d~'~areas", wa~ introduced by Councilman Sani and had its first'
reading by title 0nly.
Councilman Elder introduced aPes°lUtion authorizin~ the City of $°u$h San Francisc°
to execute a release to the United States of America under contract No. 1281&. The
resolution was adopted by all memb&rs of the City Council.

Claims in the amount of $5067.06 were presented to the Finance Committee for approval.
On m~tion of Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Sani and regularly carried same
were ordered paid.
Mayor Ferko a~ked if there were any protests against the assessments of May~a.ir No. 2
and Commercial Avenue. Therewere none. ·
On motion of Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Cor~esi and regularly carried,
Wednesday evening November 5, 19~?, was the date set for hearing on Closing Ordiaan~e.
On motion by Councilman Holston, seconded by Councilman Sani and regularly carried
the meeting was adjourned to Monday, October 27, 19&7 at ~:00 p.m.
