W. Holston,~ Ch~s. K. Elder, ~e~ Ferko, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortes,. The meeting was called to order by Mayor F~rko at 8:00 p.m. T~e City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previOUs meeting to all members of the CityCouncil, Mayor Ferko asked if any errors or omissions were noted. There being none the minutes were approved as ~bmitted~ E. J. Giachetti requested permission to install gasoline tanks at proposed service station Railroad and Linden Avenues. As the proPer notice ha4 been posted and Fire Chief approved t~e installations, motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the permit ~e granted. Communication was received from the South San Francisco Library Board stating the Director of the Y.M.C.A. would like to erect a sign on ~he library grounds. Motion was duly made~ seconded and carried that permit be granted providing sign of the same type of construction as the one in front of the 9ity Hall would be erecte%and subject to the approval of the Building Inspector and Superintendent of Streets. Communication was received from Donald P. i~rtz ~equesting permission to use part of the Shop Towel and Supply Co. grounds as a temporary location for a church. This matter was laid over for further consideration. Communication was received from the Works Engineer recommending the acceptance of the Convenience Station in Orange Avenue Park. The Superintendent of Streets approved this recommendation. Notion was dulymade, seconded, and carried that the recommendation of the Works Engineer be accepted. Communication was received from the Sout'h San Francisgo Insurance Agents Assoc~atmon asking that the City Council rescind recent action in granting a share of the City insurance commissions to Mr. Arthur Anderson. The City Council in taking their recent action were of the opinion that Mr. Anderson was a full tim~ insurance agent. As he was only a part time agent, motion was duly made, seconded and carried that no commissions on city insurance business be allowed Mr. Anderson. Communicati~n was received from South City U-Liners reqUesting permission to sell soft drinks, ice cream, etc., at their airplane contest to be held January ~th, or January ll, ~9~8. As their communication stated the recreation commission had granted permission for the use of the park, motion was duly made, seconded and carried that their request be granted provided proper police protection was afforded and necessary liability insurance was carried by the South Oity U-Liners. Communication was received from the Superintendent of Streets advising that A. Cerri of the Street Department has been confined in the South San Francisco~,aince. D~cember 10th. This communication was ordered filed. Communication was received from A. R. Rocca, Chairman of the Planning Commission, enclosing letter fromthe San Mateo County Title Co. with reference to Brent~od playground. These con~unications were turned over to Attorney Colebe~d. Communication was received from the Santa Cristo Society requesting permission to build a hall on Oak Avenue. This communication was laid over so that the Council could give same further consideration. Foster & Kleiser requested permission to dismantle a sign on E1 Camino Real near 1st Street and to reconstruct a new sign at the same location. Motion was duly made, s~ce~ded and carried that permit be granted. Communication was received from Superintendent ef Streets Schweining outlining the various changes in grades whichMr. Simpson of Buri Buri Homes, Inc. had authorized for the Buri Buri Subdivision No. 1. ~ A resident of Burl Buri addressed the Council as a representative of Buri Buri Improve- ment Club and demanded that the lights in this section be ~Operly turned on. ~ayor Ferko assured him the Council was doing everything possible to get this matter 'straightened out. A communication was received from the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co. advising that due to the dangerous condition of the lighting installation in Burl Burl No. 1 they were of the opinion they would be unable to afford coverage for such a condition. The City Clerk was instructed to write Buri Buri Homes, Inc. asking why changes were made in grades from~he original plans and requesting that the lighting condition be corrected at an early date, also enclosing copy of the Hartford Insurance Co. letter. MONTHLY REPORTS: CLAIMS: EMPLOYEES PAY: RESOLUTION #1285 BUILDING INSPECTOR: Reports for the month of November were submitted by the Chief of Police, City Judge, South San Francisco Free Public Library and City Clerk. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that same be approved as submitted. ClaLms in the amount of $10,243.69 were presented to the Fimance Committee for approval. On motion duly made, seconded and carried all claims as submitted were ordered paid. Motion was dulymade, seconded and carried that the monthly city employees be paid before Christmas. Councilman Sani introduced a resolution appointing Gildo Rozzi, building inspector amd Nello Certiberi, deputy building inspector, as special police officers to enforce laws governing the procuring of licenses for contractors. This ordinance was read in its entirety. An ordinance was introduced amending tHe present personnel system ordinance to provide for the office~and position of Superintendent of Recreation. This ordia~nce was read in its entirety. An ordinance was introduced requiring ~he holders of building permits to indemnify the City for damages to sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and pavements. This ordinance was read ~n its entirety.. Gouncilman Cortesi brought up the matter.Of the condition of various empty lots in the City. He stated that in his travels he noticed many lots ~overed with rubbish and thought it would be a good idea to have s~me cleaned up. Health Inspector Schlamm stated he would contact some of these property owners in an effort to have this condition corrected.
