Council Chambers, City Hall. A:OO p. m. Present: Councilmen .Cha.s.K. Elder, Leo Ferko, Adolph ~a~i, Emilio Cortesi. Absent: Councilman Victor Boido The m?e.ting was called to order by Leo Ferko a~ &:O0 p.m. Reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with. Communication was received from the South San Francisco Unified School District advising Shat map for Francisco Terrace had been examined by the Board and met with approval. Therefore, motion was duly marine, seconded and carried that map of Francisco Terrace be approved. Communication was received from the Personnel Board advising that the following c4ndidates had passed the examination for the position of fireman: Robert Swops Basi~'Fornesi Allen Borba final score 86.5% final score 82.03% final score 70.66% Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the eligible list for firemen as submitted by the Personnel Board be accepted. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that Messrs. Robert ~wepe, Basi~ Fornesi, and Allen Borba be appointed to the Fire DepaZ~ment effective June 1st. Communication was received from the Personnel Board advising that the following men had passed the examination for the position of Police Officers: Bernard Esparza Vincent E. Bianchini final score 88.25% final score 86.2% Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the eligible list as submitted by the PerSonnel Board be a$.cepted. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that MesSrs. Bernard Esparza and Vincent E. Bianchini be appointed to the Police Department effective May 20th. Comm~:nication was' received from County Republican ~ssemb~y requesting permission to hold a meeting in the City Hall Council Chambers in the evening. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the San Mateo County Republican Assembly be permitted to use the Council Chambers any evening with the exception of Monday and Wednesday. Communication was received from the Planning Commission advising they had approved the tentative map of the Avalon Subdivisio~with various requirements with reference to sewer and streets. As the matter of sewage disposal and street layout was not thoroughly clear t$ the Council, this matter was laid over until more definite plans were submitted. The matter of appointment of George S. McPherson as Special Officer at the Martin School crossing was brought up. The City Clerk advised ~e had contacted the Hartford Insurance Co. and they advised that the City's blanket policy covered the City for any liability f$r acts of George McPherson in the duties of SpeCial Officer but did not cover McPherson in the event of his injury. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the aPpoint-i ment of George S. McPherson as Special Officer at the ~artin School crossing be approved with the provision that he receive no compensation f~cmthe City and his appointment terminate when~ the summer school vacation startw. C~mmnnication was received from M~Gu~re & Hester advising they were under contract to construct a water supply line from Baden to Colma and a portion of this line to be installed in the City streets. They stated our City ordinance required a deposit of $7,280.00 cash for a period of two years to~co~er~damage to the City streets. This would entail approx~imstely $800.00 in interest charges and they advised they would be willing to furnish a surety bond in the amount of $7,280.00 to guarantee that they would take care of any failure to repair any damage for a period of two years. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that McGuLr? & Hester be granted permission to construct a pipe line within the City limits providing the necessary surety bond was deposited with the City Clerk. City Attorney Coleberd advised, with reference to City employees~ purchasing automobiles belonging to the City, that while there was nothing to prohibit same it would be better to have the Ci6y call for bids on new equipment and possibly get a better price ~or the secom~ hand car. It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that bids be called for new automobile for the Fire Chief. 'City Attorney Coleberd stated he intended taking a two weeks vacation which would take -i him out of the State and requested permission to do so~ Motion was duly made, seconded and ca'rind that City Attorney Coteberd be allowed an absence of 16 or 17 days commencing! June &th.
