This meeting is called for the purpose of discussing the acquisition and/or use of South San Francisco Unified School District's laud adjacent to Magnolia School City and the exchange of City property and other valuable consideration therefor. by Dated: March 20, 1964 /s/ 2atrick E. Ahe~u Mayor SPECIAL SlEETING HELD MONDAY, MARCH 23, 1964 TIME: PLACE: ROLL CALL: MAGNOLIA SCHOOL SITE ADDITIONAL LAND DISCUSSION: The meeting was called to order by Mayor Patrick E. Ahem at 8:06 p.m. Council Chambers, City Hall Present: Absent: Councilmen Patrick E. Aheru, Emilio Cortesi, Andrew Rocca, G. J. Rozzi, and F~ank Bertucelli. No~e. Iu addition to the members of the Council, the following were also in attendance: Lyle Edson, Deputy District At:orney for San Mateo County Dr. Nielsen of the South San Francisco Unified School District School Board Members: Leo Eseriui Lorraine Cooper Roger Hauseu James Stauffer John Noouan, City Attorney Eugene Aiello, City Manager Bob Maxey of the Parks & Recreation Department Vincent Mager of the Enterprise-Journal. Mayor Ahem commented that the purpose of tonight's meeting was to investigate the possibility of acquiring the additional land at the Magnolia School site for the further development of a cultural center. He at this time called on City Attorney Noouan for an explanation of the matter. City Attorney Noonan commented on the review he had made on the present use by the School District and the City of the land ad- Jacent to the Magnolia School Center. He likewise co~euted ou the acquisition by the City of the Nagnolia School building and the acquisition by the School District of the Tot Lot located at Southwood. He then explained from the engineer's d~awing the possible exits and entrances to the Magnolia School and the ease- meuts which had been established by usage and their relationship to the adjacent building. Discussion followed, at which time Roge~ Hausen asked concern- ing the ownership of the easements and also expressed interest in accomplishing the disposal of excess laud to the mutual agreement of everyone concerned. Mayor Ahem commented that it was the City's desire to develop the Magnolia Center with arts, theatrical facilities, and the like. Mrs. Cooper commented that she felt the matter should be given further study before a decision was made. She also stated she felt the City Council and School Board should separately dis- cuss this matter at their regular meetings. Dr. Nielsen requested the City Attorney to submit the City's proposal iu writing, which he agreed to do, stating it would be submitted to Mr. Lyle Edson. MAGNOLIA SCHOOL SITE ADDITIONAL LAND DISCUSSION: ( CON Tn~U~D ) AD JOURNMENT: Lyle Edsou then suggested the City Attorney prepare au agree- ment for submission. Discussion followed concerning the ap- praisal which had been made of the property and its present zoning classification. He also sta:ed that the School Board should not make any decision since :his was not a regular meeting. Councilman Rocca commented that if :he City was to develop a fine arts center at the Magnolia Sc'.~ool site it should have some area for parking facilities. Mrs. Cooper asked as to how the easements mentioned had been created to which the City Attorney replied by express grant and use over many years and that the easements were pertinent to the use of the building. Further discussion followed concerning the easements and the mentioned agreement after which it was mutually agreed by those present that City Attorney Noonau and Deputy District Attorney Edson would confer on an agreement, copies of which would be sent to the School Board and the City Council. There being nothing further, the meeting was adjourned by Mayor Ahem at 9:05 p.m. RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED, City Clerk
